How does your game fit the theme?
you're alone in a forest, and enemies are more dangerous if they surround you, encouraging you to isolate them.
I had more plans for the theme, but this is at least something!

GAMEPLAY
Nice little survival type of game. I did had to figure out how to play this game. Especially without a weapon, the beginning was very difficult. Once I got a slingshot, I was able to survive much better and endure through the game much longer. Perhaps an option to provide the slingshot at the beginning or immediately offering a choice between weapon and some health or so to the player would be helpful. It was not an easy game. I failed many evenings ;-)! It could be just me, or perhaps the difficulty with enemies could ramp up more slowly. I also sometimes did only a few seconds after retrying... Read you wanted some extra enemies and weapons that would be a good addition in a possible update. I had fun playing and trying to survive as long as possible.
ART STYLE / VISUALS
The visuals were in a nice and coherent style and unique for this jam. The UI in same style enhanced the game's atmosphere. The menu and overall graphical presentation were particularly well-executed. Cute little animations and nice
AUDIO / SOUND DESIGN
The background music and sound effects added to the game's ambiance, contributing positively to the overall gameplay experience. SFX is always nice to have in a game.
INNOVATION
The game did not showcase significant innovations but executed its chosen mechanics good.
THEME
The theme of isolation was present, with the setting in a lone forest enhancing the thematic depth. Curious about what other plans you had.
Overall a nice solid survival type game. Well done đȘ

Same thing for me here. Just doesn't load. I can send you the details in the logs but I suspect its probably the same issue everyone else is getting.
Thatâs unfortunate, sorry! Iâm not sure the other two people had the same issue, so it would be helpful to see if you donât mind taking the time to send the log (ephemeraldisle@gmail.com) but no worries if you canât.
Couldn't play the game. It was stuck in loading screen 100%. The music was playing but couldn't enter the game :(
Dang I wonder whatâs going on? Youâre not the only one đ„
If you have a second can you post what it says in %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\Campfire Survivors\logs (should work) or when you run it with the console?
It's a 3000 columns file!
But the first 2 lines are "loading default config file failed with error 7" and "im ready".
Then there are about 1500 lines of "USER ERROR: something..." And "at: somewhere...".
When I run at the console, the same .pck error shows up. I tried changing name of the files but nothing changed.
Dang, Iâd be curious to read it all if you were to send it my way (Iâm .ephemerald on discord, in the Goedware server, for instance, or you could email me ephemeraldisle@gmail.com
First error seems like config.cfg isnât showing up in %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\Campfire Survivors , but I think that error happens every time you load the game for the first time on a computer. I just deleted my config.cfg file, launched the game, got that error, and it still ran fine. So unfortunately thatâs not the problem
I'm sending you the file via email. The rest is up to you!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Really solid first pass on the game! I enjoyed the art and theming. I really struggled with figuring out how to play at first. I assumed I had a way to fight back using left mouse button and I died several times before I managed to get my first upgrade and earn the slingshot.
Once I discovered the dash key and that the slingshot fired automatically on a cooldown (first time I got the slingshot I was still spamming left click trying to fight stuff, so I didn't get to read the description) it became quite a lot easier and fun to play.
I found that the game started hard but got easier the longer I was alive. I did notice that monsters would get stuck on objects, so maybe that made it easier than intended?
I would recommend starting the player with the slingshot and introducing higher health monsters the longer it goes on.
Also I see you wanted to have "start with weapon" as a permanent upgrade, if you start with a weapon by default I think it would be a smoother experience, but you could have "piercing shots" as that permanent upgrade instead, I think something like that would make a very interesting difference. đ
Either way, great job!
Thanks for the great feedback!
I can definitely see your point on starting with a weapon. Part of it was the theme idea, original original pass was youâd get extra campers and theyâd be the ones auto-using weapons for you, then it was going to be like little item fairies, either way to start you off alone, isolated, and scared, then see how much easier surviving is (rather quickly) with a friend.
I think some more clear communication might make the idea still work - I still think as an in-built tutorial itâd be nice to have people learn moving around and tossing wood into the fire first, then learning to defend themselves isnât a bad idea. Whatever direction I take it, this was definitely not the way I wanted to bring players in đ
The slingshot starting with passthrough was an accidental bug, decided to leave it that way to keep things from getting too hard. Completely agree it makes a way better upgrade!
really great entry! loved the art and overall polish, the menus in particular were really crispy nice job. liked the concept a lot too and the gameplay seemed fun but unfortunately i wasnt good enough to get past the first night lol. art and music were excellent
Such a cute game , I love the art style, It's a bit difficult to get going good, but I had a lot of fun with it great job.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! My intention was to have the first round start needing to get 5 wood, turn in, and get a weapon (I had three plannedâŠ.), and then for a single medal currency unlock the ability to start with a weapon instead, so youâd just get one round where you feel weak at the start and then get that feeling of progression. Alas, best laid plans..
love the art, and the game itself was pretty fun! I do wish there was an indicator to find the fire as sometimes I would venture out too far and wander around till I found my way back. Also wish there were different kinds of enemies or the enemies' health would increase over time, as after upgrading damage once you can oneshot them already. Almost got to heat level 9 but ended with 8.
Thanks! Yeah I totally agree with everything you say, I had two other enemies like 95% ready, just didnât prioritize my time well to get them in there, as well as some better scaling. Campfire indicator was on my wishlist for things I didnât think were necessary in the jam, definitely planning to do that too though!
Pretty good
Great art and animations, specially the UI. The music is good aswell. Got heat level of 7, the gameplay is nice but the difficult curve seems a bit too linear for me, I wish there were more enemies trhough the end phases and less at the beggining but a smooth experience onverall.
Thanks! I definitely wanted to do something way different difficulty wise but spent too much time on the UI đ
Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to get past the title screen. Sometimes the game crashes and otherwise I'm just stuck and nothing happens. Maybe I will try again later.
Oh no! The actual title screen/main menu screen or the loading splash screen that says âWish you were here!â?
Thatâs the main menu, are you reaching that?
I tried it out on my laptop and it took quite a long time to get past the postcard to the actual game part, so maybe itâs just slow loading? Iâll definitely try to figure out the problem.
I'm stuck on the screen with "Wish you were here!". I tried to let my computer load while I was away but I didn't reach the main menu, even after 30 min.
Dang, well I appreciate you trying!
If you have the patience/willingness I included the executable with console in the release (campfire survivors.console.exe), which maybe would pop up some error messages?
Alternatively I believe Godot auto-generates logs in Windows at: %APPDATA%\Roaming\Godot\app_userdata\Campfire Survivors\logs
would be curious to see the output of any. Obviously no worries if not, or if even that doesnât give any error messages D:
I think I somehow triggered something by pressing random keys on the keyboard and clicking everywhere on the screen. Maybe I entered the game but the loading screen is still there.
Pretty straightforward game. I love the artstyle, how polished the menus feel and enjoy the roguelike elements. I think the game was a tiny bit too easy since you could just stand next to the fire almost infinitely and collect the branches the enemies leave making it unnecessary to venture out into the dark but it was fun still and definitely has a lot of potential.
Thanks! Yeah, I upped the drop rate last minute just to make sure it wasnât too hard, but itâs definitely way too easy at the moment. Appreciate the feedback :)
Good game, please try our game :)
