The idea of an automatic platformer where you have to change the screen color for platforms to exist is neat and the character's design is cool, though as others have said, the game needs polish. Maybe you already know this, but if I fall off the platform, the character just bounces along with it's head just above the bottom of the screen for half a minute and then the "You Died" window pops up. Others have said there might be more to the game than fits in their screen, so maybe there is something I am missing, but from what I see, it would be simpler if they just died after hitting the bottom of the screen.
It would also be helpful if the controls were listed at the beginning of the game, as well as the game page, and for a note to be added at the beginning of the scene to press W to advance the text.
An interesting and unique game style—it really gives the game its own identity. The colors were in it and the game concept was a nice idea! The execution could perhaps use a bit more polish, though. On my screen, I think I wasn’t able to see everything as intended. The character design was nicely done, and the music fits and is there. Start story was fun 😊.
I couldn’t quite see how the theme was incorporated, but you managed to finish a game, and I read that you learned a lot from the process. That’s just as important as having fun while making it, of course. Great job—keep it up! 😊
Grate try can not play to big for my screen
idea is good, similar to mine in the part where something appears only in different color mode. The game is a bit wierd, but thats not bad.
I feel a bit bad rating this conventionally because it comes across as more of an art game than a game that's setting out to be a crowd-pleaser. Admittedly, I'm spooked rather easily by horror games so one of the levels hit me quite hard. I wish the game started with a few vanilla levels centered around the core gameplay loop as there was potential to be had there. Without the calm before the storm, the storm feels less intense after all.
I'm sad to say but I think this only vaguely fits into the jam's theme and breaks a few rules as you said. However, I would strongly encourage you to look at this for a horror jam you may be interested in participating in.
I tried, I failed, I learned. In the end the only thing that matters is that I finished it and tried my best. also my friend and I were having a blast while making it, so in the end, it WAS worth the time.
That's what matters most!
This game is, interesting. I apologize in advance if this was not your intention. This game feels very much like one of those creepypasta .exe games with the very simplistic art style and gameplay, and the very eerie death screen. I'm not sure what the level that is just a paragraph is about but it was somethin. I was skipping around the levels as they were quite difficult, I *think* I got close to finishing level 5 but I was met with a giant orange death wall. I like the lil guy you control and I am sad to say I was not able to retrieve his chair :(
it WAS the intention, thanks for the... well, kind words in this case.
but it's sad to hear you found the game itself difficult, i was not expecting that.
also that means you didn't see the "ending" that would kinda explain the paragraph level.
all you need to do to access it is to hit the big red wall and fall down, there's a black platform that hints that.
I tried to play this but to be honest i don't know how. Whatever i do the character seems to move and jump by itself. The start had a nice creepy weird vibe. I will sustain from voting for now, If you can leave feedback how to play let me know and i do an another try
when you press play you'll see the levels. (in the order you should play them) There's a button with a "T" (for tutorial), there you learn you need to press w to change the background color (don't ask why i thought this was a good idea) to make some blocks appear/disappear (depending on what the background color is). hope i could help :3
also the reason i made the jump and moving forward automatic is to make the gameplay as simple as possible.
also also sorry for not making it more apparent, I'll try my best to avoid things like this next time i enter a jam.
i got it to work, it was just not intuitive, i think there is definitely a good idea in there and some explanation in the start would help. For example why it did not work for me (my fault really) is i thought i had to press W to do something so in the T level i kept falling trough the ground and since it felt to me the auto moving was a bug it felt unplayable.
While it can use some work i did enjoy it and the creepy vibe it gave.
I'm glad you enjoyed it even with it's flaws. Yeah, I agree, I should've made it a bit more apparent what the player should do. Well, atleast now I know what I should do next time I'm doing a game jam.
