A fun mix of tower defense and a bit of Tetris with the walls. It was a clever idea that you, as the Ant Queen, could make decisions to increase the difficulty and drive up your score—a nice twist!
The theme and palette were incorporated well.
The pixel art looked decent, and the sound was good. However, the towers felt a bit slow in their shooting, and eventually, my walls ended up looking pretty messy! With some polishing in terms of options and features and updates for walls and weapons in a future update, the game could become even more enjoyable to play.
A solid jam entry—well done! 😊
I love the pixel art make cute game. The build wall seems buggy.
Great game!
Loved the art style, the sound design and the game itself. Wish there was more :)
Good job
What a game, cool tower defence, realy nice, love the art and a really good sound, excelent game.
This game has a really cool concept that i think fits perfectly for this game jam's theme! I can see the potential this game has if developed further like for example some new defenses and different bonuses/perks you can get from commanding the ants. Also I might've missed it but I'm not sure if there is a benefit from building walls around all three castle. Overall it's a fun game with cool art!
Glad you enjoyed our game! Our main idea for having multiple castles was that you get to choose where to start your defenses. The main objective was to keep at least one castle inside the walls but we didn't quite have time to implement that, so at the moment you just need enclosed walls, castle or no castle. Maybe at some point in the future we will add in a point bonus for having multiple castles inside the walls at the end of each round.
Haha, it's a funny game, I like it, but I didn't really understand what the theme of the jam is, but it's cool
Loved this one! I like how you can choose to make it more difficult for yourself for a good bonus! It was quite simple but I loved each individual element, the base building, cannon placing and random waves of ants made it all really satisfying. If you decided to go further with this game I'd love more level layouts and an endless mode, even if it would quickly lose its balance. Really fun, wish this game came packaged with something on a portable console or my phone so I could play it on the go.
I git a bit confused that i lost after the first round, but i think it was because i did not close the wall around my castle. Shooting felt a bit off to me. But in general a good game, some minor fixes and will be much more enjoyable. Well done
Thanks for trying out the game! We didn't really have the chance to have people playtest so all this feedback is extremely helpful for us.
I love the green army men designs. I'm reminded of the old toy soldiers. I ended up getting a score of 200. Seeing the entire ant colony's wrath at once sure was a sight to behold.
Everybody else already mentioned feedback about the cannons and timers. So I'll add that an .exe would be valuable in the future. It took 3 refreshes before I was able to play the game in my browser and I wanted to see if a download worked better.
Glad you enjoyed, toy army men was totally whay we were going for! Can i ask what issue exactly you were having with the game not playing in the browser properly? I havent run into any issues with that myself.
That's cool! And it gave me a black screen three times in a row.
Huh, that is weird. Ill keep your advice in mind though! Good to have backup options.
This was a very cool game with great mechanics. Just like other commenters, I’d suggest to add some explanation on the itch.io page (you can still modify it) because otherwise its a little confusing. Like, mention that there is a timeout for placing cannons, that the castle needs to be surrounded by cannons to work, that there is a reload for cannons, etc. I also wonder if it could be made so not all the cannons fire at once?
That was fun! Was a bit confused on my first playthrough, particularly because there's no visible timer for cannon placement and and I wasn't sure why I was unable to place walls sometimes.
On my next playthrough though I got the hang of it, this game has a lot of potential if you continue working on it.
A visible timer for placing cannons, showing the wall currently being placed in a different colour so it's clear what shape it is when overlapping with already existing walls, and a marker after selecting a target with the cannons are some improvements which could make the mechanics more clear to the player.
Overall, great work!
Thank you for trying out our game! Each phase is on a timer and I had totally forgotten to add it into any of the other phases besides the building one, honest mistake on my part 😅. I appreciate the feedback, the team will definitely consider this when we revisit the project.
Okay first off, love the battle field grid esque dual gameplay thingie majig. Its awesome! I developed the strat of barricading the ant sand spawning area instead of blocking off the buildings, I could spam that for 25 seconds while setting cannons close to the sand. Stacked with the multiplier, the game was really rewarding. However, I was a little confused on how points are gathered- when the ant bullets hit the castle, it would be nice to see it take damage or somethin since the whole point of the game is to protect it. Also, when I first played it, I noticed there was a timer to put down blocks, but not a visible timer to put down cannons, so an indicator for that would be helpful as well (I went a round without cannons because of this, I know L gamer move). Speaking of cannons, Left clicking for cannon use is also very delayed- I didn't know if that was intentional or not, but I found myself using aim assist on my cursor and mashing the left mouse praying the cannons shot out when I clicked. With some tweaks, I can easily see this being an itch classic, and again, this idea was awesome! Ants in my pants / 10 (Also the music ending right on the timer is a neat touch)
Thank you for playing our game. In our original idea, the cannons were more going to be mortars whose projectiles follow an arcing path instead of cannons that shoot in a straight line. The shooting phase was going to be more like placing a target for the mortars to shoot, watch them shoot, then after a cooldown select a new target. This ended up being a little more complicated than we expected so we had to pivot to something easier for the jam. We are hoping to have some upgrades for a more fuller version in the future. Glad you enjoyed our game and thank you again for playing!
love the art style, very impressive!!!!!!!!!
Cute game! I love risk/reward systems. It was fun having a little tetris minigame to build up my fort.
Thanks for trying our game! The team is very proud of it.
