And the award for best debut of Harold Jam 3 goes to...

Gameplay: Loved the party switching mechanic and how everyone (including Ganbo!) had their own unique set of skills. The puzzle mechanics really had me thinking! The dialogue, while well written, does get a little long at times and takes a bit away from the gameplay in that regard. Quick suggestion since you're relatively new; maybe have the party switching dialogue activate a switch that reduces the amount of dialogue after the first switch to save time.

Combat: Not a combat-focused game, but that's perfectly fine.

Comedy: The character dynamics and gags throughout make this game really shine. The costs in the credits were a literal last laugh.

Sound: Liked the effort to look for extra music and sounds and I think they worked well. Nothing stunning but nothing bad or out of place either.

Visuals: RTP worked well, although sometimes it was hard to tell what was a wall and what wasn't.

Story: And here's where you truly shine. Let me just say the title is very misleading; that was an odyssey and a half. The characters are very well written and have unique personalities, and I love how they all interact with each other. The way everything comes together at the end and where you chose to cut the story off is just sublime. It was a little on the long side but hey, more time to get immersed.

I can't believe this is your first completed game. This is a cut above many other debuts from some established devs here, and you've already proven off the bat you're a natural storyteller. There's a part where Harold walks through a wall but I don't even care. Easy top 4 game of this whole jam. Very, very well done; don't stop making games!

A memorable and unique entry for me out of what I’ve played.

This had a completely different tone and setting from other entries with a big focus on puzzles.

Not your run of the mill puzzles and quite well thought out with a cute idea of controlling a toy.

I found some of the dialogue a little long and slow but other than that enjoyed this one.

Solutions were not always obvious and the use of different characters was interesting but also a little frustrating to back track.

For a jam entry this was rather long and I could see it being longer for any not so puzzle savvy.

I would have preferred it if I had a choice when and where to save.

Text moved a little slow but a neat little game all in all, nice puzzles, poor ricky's head.

As one of the few people in the world who enjoys good puzzles, I had fun with this one. If I may, though…

  • No access to the always dash option? :(
  • No fastforwarding text or event speeds was annoying, even though I suspect the stop on text fastforwarding was to sync certain events with the dialog.
  • I see what you did with saving, which was a clever way to unlock chapters, but there were times where being able to just save and pick it back up later would’ve been nice.
  • It seemed a bit weird that, while building the bridge with the palettes, you could just sort of…walk onto or off of the sides.

This was a very fun game! I enjoyed the puzzles and story a lot. I wish I had been able to save, as well as speed up the dialogue. I would also shorten the dialogues you have when you wish to switch characters. It's fine reading it the first time, but not the tenth.

Some typos like 'theives', 'villian' and 'sifitng', also Skullface says 'jewelry jewelry store' at some point. I was also able to leave the balcony through the debris instead of going down the stairs, not sure if that's meant to happen?

Again, I really enjoyed the game! Congrats on such a fun puzzle game :)

I liked all the well thought out puzzles, with the finale centered around Ganbo. Pacing feels a bit dragged out at times with the slow text speed, forced pauses in the dialogue and areas with backtracking when you don't have the right character. Otherwise, really well done!

What a unique take on a Harold story! The fact that Harold's unique powers are using a screwdriver and a remote control doll was really comical. I found the puzzle combinations really clever. They weren't your standard boulder pushing RM puzzles, and solutions were smart and satisfying. I'm sure you'd see this if you watched other people play, but sometimes the interactable parts of a puzzle were a bit too obscure, so it took more wandering than I would have wanted. For example, one tiny shiny spot took me a very very long time to find just because it was tiny, and I didn't realize that little levers were meant to let Ganbo through for a few minutes.

I'm really impressed you fit so many stages in as well. You got a ton done and it was relatively polished and bug free playing. For the sake of the jam (and with 35 entries to play), I think you could have afforded maybe one fewer stage. Dialog I got a bit impatient with as well. Your meticulous pacing of the dialog is a real accomplishment, and it actually made sense in each sentence, but I almost always prefer instant text as a fast reader.

Overall good use of the engine and a solid entry!

A well done puzzle game made in RPGMaker, the idea of having to use the different characters was a nice touch as well. Suggestion I would have is add an option to save in case we need to leave and come back to the game, and let me control the text speed please, as it got a little annoying having to wait all the time for the text when doing a character swap after a while.

This one was a lot of fun for me.  I enjoyed working through the puzzles and the different character abilities.  Very well done.

Cute, but repetitive "don't get caught" gameplay gets old really fast.

The concept is quite clever as are the better part of the puzzles. Navigation is frustrating at times.

Also this door doesn't work unless you're Harold, I tried it 3 times with the other characters and was convinced the game was broken before trying it one last time. Ultimately I got frustrated with the Ganbo parts shortly thereafter since I had already spent a long time "stuck" because of the wonky door.

Edit: itch won't let me post the photo, throws a "missing token" error.

It's the one where you get half of the torn paper.

A fun adventure-puzzle game where most of us did jrpg's! I found I've had to backtrack a lot when I couldn't figure out how to get past certain obstacles but I eventually got through after about an hour and 15 minutes. I'm not sure about the message sound effect added which I don't think adds to the experience of reading dialogue though.

I did get stuck at the final puzzle when I took too long to realize I had to interact with the flag objects to progress the game. The best puzzles is easily the part where you had to collect pallets to cross the trash heap and went on fooling goons with noisemakers.
