Woah... This game was just.. awesome. From the gameplay to the jokes. I did feel the puzzle was a little too hard (though I'm admittedly bad at puzzles), so I appreciated the "out" that your teammates gave. I do feel there were more than enough items, and the game could be made a bit harder. But I did like this game a lot!

I absolutely agree with all of your critique points here - I agree that battles could have more challenge, and the puzzle is a bit too tricky (though that is definitley why I put in the skip option!). All in all, I'm really glad you had a good time with the game, and I very much appreciate your comment :) Keep making great games, and I'm sure we'll cross paths again after the jam!

This is the most new-player-friendly IGMC entry I've played, I think, which is a fantastic thing. From the beginning, it starts minimal, providing a quick intro into the high-stakes infiltration, setting personalities for the main cast, and providing a sleek "attack/defend/items" UI for the player to interact with.
Everything feels seamless, and that might be Ever, In Time's best skill - onboarding the player into the experience and making it feel seamless in the onboarding.
Instantly, at any moment, you know what the stakes are, and why you're doing what you're doing, and the gameplay is easy enough to follow. The sprites are cute, the backgrounds are cute - everything is super cute.
There's a neat puzzle that might be the most difficult thing the game has to offer, but after a while of not being able to solve it, a "guidance voice" that embodies the voice of your friends prompts you that if you're having trouble, they can solve it for you.
I DID NOT use this. I solved it using my brain, because i am SMURT. (i'm smurt!!!)
The game has a great amount of polish, and that's just testament to how coda usually does things... full of polish. It might not be as down my alley as, say, his darkly humorous in-development project Dog Eat Dog (of which I'm ravenously hungry for!) but I do feel like this game will please many people who want a nice, singular RPG experience with easy-to-follow characters and conflicts, and a light tone.
It has some promising concepts here, plus a really fun use of the fantastic scripter gimmer's "Rewind Time" script... lovely to see it used here.
Overall, I do feel like it was a well-crafted story with polished UI, and a good arc and playful tone. Ever, In Time is codapill doing what he does - delivering a polished game with very few cracks! Love it. Thank you, friend.

I really enjoyed watching the VoD playthrough of 'Ever, In Time' and I think your critique was very fair and balanced - I learnt a lot from it. This was my first time using the RMMV battle system, and I think that shows given that I definitely kept things simple in that department.
I'm glad you found the slightly-tucked-away terminal so that you could complete the puzzle, and that it was appropriately challenging. On reflection, maybe I should've had all 5 computers in a row to give that more visual clarity.
I'm pleased you referenced my onboarding methods! I'm a big fan of easing players into your game, and teaching them how to play without information overload - it's something I strive for quite a lot in my game design. I want people who don't normally play video games to not feel intimidated, and RPGs are typically quite an intimidating genre for non-gamers -- and what a shame, because they hold some of the most wonderfully touching stories in our medium.
In my own self-critique I've determined that I could've done a better job explaining Tonic's motivations -- why they're nefarious etc. And just gone a bit deeper into the connections between these 3 friends and the villian. I think I would've had I not started this jam so late.
Flipping from this cute look back to Dog Eat Dog: Scam to Survive development sure is a trip :)

What can I say about: “Ever, in Time”?
It’s a really original, polished and great game.
Liked the music, the extra dialogue when you pick up certain items, the characters (because the dialogues really feel more human and ordinary), and many stuff you will find normal…normally. Also I liked how the mechanic of rewinding time (tried that plugin, is not one of the bests for working on it, but I wish you good luck for making it good, when I tried that plugin one month ago I thought it was like Prince of Persia, but then it’s weird because you must travel for the whole time left and sometimes it doesn’t work properly if you wait less than 5 seconds…ok, that doesn’t matter for the review).
The combat needs a bit of work. The characters have so few skills unfortunately and I didn’t understand “when Constance do the thing in the last battle.” How she do that? Also, if you use the VI and get hit next, you can replenish what you lost by casting the skill, this can be useful in the future but again, without skills and the only one you got is nearly AoE attacks you miss any strategy involved.
Again, I liked the game and can’t wait for the next! You got this!

Thank you very much for playing 'Ever, in Time', I really appreciate it :) I'm glad you liked the music, dialogue and characters - I think that's probably where I spent the most time... Which is why I would definitely agree with you that the combat needs some work. There's only a handful of skills, and the emphasis for this game is definitely more on the story. I'd love to work on the game more and fix this!
I could have done a better job explaining that Constance had basically stolen some technology during the escape to make her do that - I wanted to show a flashback that explained this, which would've also included more about how these 3 friends know each other - but I just ran out of time! But I like that you picked up on that, because you're not the first person!!
Finally, I'm fortunate enough that the developer of the rewind plugin is a friend of mine, so I definitely had some help with making that plugin even more reliable and feature-filled. The latest version is here if you ever want to try again :)

I think you did an amazing work with this demo, I want to know more! The story is really engaging and I like the humor you put inside your game (even in the small things like having pizza as revive item), Constance is hilarious! Are you going to continue it? I hope so...

Hi! I liked the graphics, the simple battle system and, mostly, the music! This first chapter is a nice start and it makes me want more about the plot. Maybe I missed something, but... I didn't understand how I am supposed to use the rewind mechanic. Ok, with Tab, but... why should I use it? In the game I never had to use it once. Have I missed something?

Ah, for the rewind mechanic... So when the jar breaks in the main lab, you can rewind time with Tab to fix the jar and move forward with the puzzle. However, I did not make this absolutely compulsory in case players were stuck or confused, which is probably why you didn't need to use it. I could have done a much better job communicating this.
Oh ok, I got it now. In fact, I didn't manage to complete the puzzle myself, so Constance gave me a hand :)

Super engaging and funny throughout. The sound and music design is also fantastic. My only complaint is that it wasn’t long enough, I want more!!

I like the game's presentation. It's entertaining. Constance is probably my fave. She's so funny! She's got side comments in almost anything and I'm here for it.

Every single game from codapill is a banger! Ever, In Time is a brief glimpse into what is hopefully going to be a much longer tale! Chock full of charm, wit, humor, some of the most obscure video game references ever. Ever is everything everyone could ever want in an everlastingly endearing lead character in a genre that is becoming ever harder to find, especially when everyplace making games is more focused on everting your pockets everyday instead of delivering a quality story like this one is poised to be!

Man, what a fun little game! The humor was spot on (at least for me) picking on some of the tropes we see in games these days, and the characters were well-written and lovable! The puzzle mechanic was a fun touch, and the battle system was great! But, the best part about this whole experience, to me, is the sound design. The music fit in well where it was placed, and the SFX were spot on. I only wish that it would have been longer, because I just wanted more! Can't wait to see what Codapill has in store for us next <3

I lot of fun creating the sound effects in various different programs, and somtimes even... My own voice! I hope to continue development of the game, as I had a lot of fun making it. I originally had plans for a larger lab, and taking these characters to the next town, but I simply ran out of time!! Thank you for playing! I love Ever, too :)
I was thoroughly disappointed that the experience ended so soon, and honestly can't wait to see where Codapill goes next with it!
Loved the three characters, really intrigued by the storyline and the time-travelling mechanic is super cool.
Also thoroughly appreciated the commitment by the developer to call out the disgusting habits of the characters eating pizza and discarded tacos off the floor.
