Description
This track was inspired by the theme "The Far Reaches" and an image provided. The piece is meant to depict a journey to a faraway land and consists of 4 distinct sections - the start of your journey, leaving your hometown, leaving your last familiar environment, and arriving at your destination.
When making the track, I visualised this as an RPG where you start out a long journey with cutscenes and visuals of your final destination, followed by leaving your hometown into the wider world. After a long period of travelling, you enter an environment where the last traces of familiarity are gone. Things are unfamiliar and cold, yet not hostile. Finally, you arrive at your destination.
In every part of the journey, I chose to either change the energy of the music or the timbre of the instruments being played in order to convey the main emotions associated with the different parts of a long journey like this.
Music was made with a combination of standard orchestral instruments and some instruments from my culture that I used to play.

Very good ambience. Some cool textures and sound design!
Gonna repeat here what I already told you for visibility :)
Intro : 0:14 chord voicing to be changed mostly look at what the cello is playing
0:53 something weird is happening with the celesta/bell mixed with the chords its a little off
0:58 chord with strings on top voicing is also a little weird it seems like a suspended chord that should technically put us in some confusion states but I don,t think that was intended because the next chord is a bit out of nowhere
1:14 to end: Good smooth transition. I like the trills its a nice change of space, you finally put some bass but a little too late imo
Mixing : If you listen to the overall piece, everything is mostly staying on mid, high-mid range all the time don't be scared to pan some instruments doesn't have to be too much. Most of the melody notes are also playing at around the same range all the time which is really closed up, you can open your arrangement and use different instruments to continue your melody to go up and down using their different range. Your main melody can probably have some EQ work, cut off the annoying frequency.
For the theme its pretty much nailed it sounds like I imagine what the picture would look like.
Some low-end frequencies somewhere at some point would be nice it could be a cello double with a doublebass just to give the chords some root note at some point since most of your chords are inversion witouth a root note, it would make a big difference to have a root at least somewhere, its okay to have inversion but to have something to get a grip its easier with a root note that is much more present.
Thank you for your detailed feedback! Always appreciate you helping me get better at making music :)
Flute, strings, harp each get their chance to take the center stage in this piece, which I thought was a fantastic choice on your part. Gives me Ralph Vaughan Williams "pastoral" vibes, like I'm wandering aimlessly around the countryside to clear my head of emotional trauma I experienced back home. It's arranged and mixed very well. Being a lover of bass and low frequencies in general, I wish the first half of the song had a bit more low end. Or some dramatic entrance of the bass. Overall this is a very evocative piece that paints a clear picture in my head. Excellent work!
Thank you so much for listening! I love the music and imagery by Vaughan Williams, so that’s a compliment I’m really happy to get :D
I agree with the remark about the low end in the first part of the piece being missing, I’ve also gotten similar feedback from others about that. I wasn’t fully happy with it myself before submission but didn’t have enough time to fix it, though it’s something I’m certainly going to do post-jam.
Dude that flute melody really hit me! I think the mix was prettu good but there was something there that was messing with me, I'm not sure what, maybe a bit of clickyness?
Well, anyway, I really liked the submission overall, I just didn't really feel the theme of the artwork(jam post) in it, but I do feel the RPG vibes so much! Take care!
Thanks for listening! I’m not entirely happy with the mix due to a lack of time, will definitely work on it after the jam.
Immediately get a good sense of space from your mix, and the intro flute is nice.
First thought is that it sounds more sad than "far reaches," but it sounds nice.
I like the little harp notes, they're well composed.
I think constructively, some of the instruments still have a bit of a midi sound, especially with the volume kind of staying the same. But, given that, it's pretty decent.
I'd say creativity wise, it is decent, but it sort of leans on oriental instruments and doesn't necessarily bring that "woa, what is that?" factor, but it's also not without creativity.
Overall though this is very good. Well done! :)
Thank you for the detailed feedback, I appreciate it! I’ve been slowly improving on mixing and composition but having specific things pointed out like the midi sound helps a lot for the next time I make something :)
I'm loving this sound. Keep it up
Thanks for listening!
