Description
PLEASE READ :)

For this track, I aimed for something special. While the composition itself may not seem extremely impressive at first glance, the way it was created is quite unique and rooted in video game music techniques, though with a twist and this is where the creative part comes in. This 3 minutes piece was designed as a single instance, but it’s unique every time you play it because the music is procedural and controls the movement depending on the states of the emotions happening.

Using Wwise, I adapted the music with states and switches to generate a different version with each playthrough. The structure remains similar, but the instrumentation, effects, and chord placements vary every time. I also added small melodic elements that can appear randomly during the "main" section, creating unexpected moments. The result is a track that could play for 20 minutes or more without repeating itself exactly. This was my creative approach for the jam: crafting a dynamic, ever-evolving track that adapts every time you play the game.

For the game’s theme, I combined inspiration from The Far Reaches and The Picture to create a modern sound infused with traditional Japanese elements. The envisioned game is a walking simulator where the player endlessly falls into a deep abyss. The journey begins in near-total darkness, but as you descend, the world gradually reveals its details, culminating in full light at the end.

I had another track idea in mind but only had time to complete this one.
Most of the sound are crafted by me, almost all the synth pads were made with my acoustic guitar and some granulation in phaseplant.

DAW used : Nuendo 13
Integration : Wwise

I'm so happy I got to see this on the livestream and listen to everyone's reactions to your story of how you made this, absolutely fantastic work!!!

As I mentioned to you in a reply, I commend you for going ham on this with procedural elements, a very unique submission, and a cool use of Wwise and sound design!

Heh. Fantastic stuff as always.

The method you came up with is really cool too. I'd really love to see this technique in a video, where you're interfacing the music and you can see the real time changing.

Love this, always interesting and never overwhelms negatively! Rather than falling, I get the feeling of mindfully diving and exploring! The instrumentation is very balanced and soothing to hear.

As always, the first thing that stands out to me is the excellent mixing and selection of instruments/sounds. The piece feels really alive and really makes me feel like I’m in the world created by the sound. Every time I listen to it again I notice something new.

The percussion was very nicely done and kept a good sense of rhythm and connection throughout all the different sections that stayed even when the percussion layer was removed.

I would love to see/listen to a long track of this being procedurally generated, it’s a creative idea!

The bass at :42 gives me chills every time.  Wow.  Musically I have no critique, this is so spot on.  I've listened to this several times and it gets better each time.  Incredible use of generative elements, which from my experience, can be rather unlistenable when used incorrectly.  Thematically, I don't feel like I'm playing a walking simulator.  I feel like I'm exploring a post-apocalyptic metropolis in 2392 that's been overgrown by flora that would seem alien to us.

This is by far one of my favorite submissions.  Incredible work.

Super cool idea here and I love that there's melodic stuff for the ear to grab on to even if it is procedurally generated. I think this would work great for the game you described :)

Gave it a multiple listen, an overall great job, but I gotta mention that you pulled off some pretty interesting textures, I wasn't sure my brain was playing tricks on me, and it wasn't, great job!

Absolutely gem of a submission. Fantastic job.

Welp, you got me to listen to this piece multiple times so I guess I know what I'm putting down for listenability ;)

I'm glad to see music being created with procedural components in mind. I think it'd be fitting for games like a walking simulator as you've mentioned. It's nice to have a little bit of variation if I'm exploring one place in multiple instances, or over one long period of time. I remember reading that No Man's Sky did something like this with their OST.

As for the piece itself, I feel that you've put something together that's solid and fulfills its purpose really well. It sets the vibe for a setting like the image in this submission, and lends itself well for other sounds/melodies/etc. to come in and give the listener (or the player) something unique to listen to.

Hopefully you continue experimenting with this tech - there's a lot of games that could benefit from this!

Thanks for sharing, and keep up the good work :)

Pristine production quality as always 😁

Felt that this could easily fit in a sort of 2d/isometric game, like something in the style of Ori or a more calmer version of something like Hades.

Stellar stuff!
