Description
This is my submission for the Impressions Composing Jam: Imagination #2 Theme: The Far Reaches.
PROJECT TITLE: In Reverence of Nature: Pilgrimage to Amida Falls
These three short tracks were written to tell the story of a disillusioned villager who joins two passing pilgrims on a consecrated expedition along Kiso Road to their destination at The Amida Falls.
The tracks were composed exclusively using the Final Fantasy VII soundfont along with various effects. Inspiration was taken from Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross), Christopher Larkin (Hollow Knight) as well as modern electronic composers like Autechre and Boards of Canada.
TRACK DETAILS:
Track 1 (2:45) "Memories Of Home Replaced By Dreams" (Village Area Theme)
Track 2 (2:40) "10,000 Hinoki Trees" (Forest Area Theme)
Track 3 (2:20) "Purification Ritual" (Waterfall Area Theme)

I loved it, all three tracks are really beautiful. I couldn't say which one was better because they are all gorgeous, but "10,000 Hinoki Trees" was my personal favorite: the melody is a journey and when it turns dark and gloomy it was very inspiring. The sound choice is aesthetically beautiful. I enjoyed it so much.
I like that all three tracks are combined into one. makes it feel like a progressive story
Really happy to hear you stuck around long enough to listen to all 3! They were written as area themes for a simple little story. Now that you mention it, I could have woven them together somehow to push the progressive element further. Thank you so much for your thoughts!
I think using an existing soundfont was an interesting choice, at least you were upfront and honest about it.
Mitsuda and Larkins influence I totally hear, but Boards of Canada not so much at all. I think the composition is great but the mixing (especially the panning) could be a little less tight. The second and third track feel straight down the middle outside of a few panning trails in the delays used.
Overall super nice submission.
I really appreciate your constructive feedback. In the future, I'll work on my stereo imaging and try to make my inspiration a little more audibly clear. Thank you again for the great insight!
