Wow, just wow:
I stumbled across this gem while in a discord call with my friend. We were trying to find some good horror game's (free) on Itch.io, and when we found this game, I knew, personally, I was in love. I'm really into liminal spaces, horror games, and 3D Environmental game design.
I loved this charming game. Although a repetitive gameplay loop I find myself instantly enamored with the mall itself. The graphics are absolutely stunning man, really, fantastic stuff. Also, I know your team took large inspiration from Kane pixels series, the Oldest view. I always wanted a game with this style, and DeadMall captured it perfectly.
10/10, would recommend, great premise & concept, however, could be further expanded upon , such us creating a fully realized second floor with more shops and giving players some sort of an alert when Frosty's going to appear.
I know this was only a Game jam sub but holy, good job guys.
Looking forward to any further project's produced/being worked on by your amazing team.
-Peace.
I feel like if you just make the steering a little better - so you don't have to move forward to turn. And make the monster a bit more marketable. This could really hit it big as soon as the right Let's Player plays it.
Absolutely blown away by this one! Such a fun idea for a game, the shopping cart mechanic led to such a fun frantic feeling, and I loved the risk/reward of how long you can stay collection stuff. The mall muzak slowly distorting and fading out was such a great tension builder too, gave me fond memories of Deadrising. Really have nothing but praise for this game, well done!
Yes, Dead Rising was certainly among the inspirations for this project.
We had a blast designing all these little game systems, and it seems you had fun discovering them all! Thanks for playing!
Super Cool
I soft locked myself unfortunately. Crashed the cart too hard which tipped it over, and when I grabbed it to try driving it again I flew through the ceiling and noclipped out of the mall completely while spinning like crazy :(
This is definitely not intended behavior, haha. We’ll see if we improve the cart physics.
This game was actually SO fun to play, the movement felt good and i definitely jumped a couple of times lol. Great job! Frosty is my bias~
Thank you, I’m impressed you braved it out for as long as you did!
Also, props for streaming and playing every game in the jam. Definitely looking forward to trying your submission ✌️
The amount of sauce is crazy, real banger
Glad you enjoyed the sauce!
Love the Arcade Vibe with the VHS Visuals, both pair amazing with each other!
Encountered my first bug! When you change the graphic settings inside of the game, from medium to high for me. It slows down the cursor movement by a LOT.
Sounds like a graphics/performance related issue. We’ll check this out soon!
Your Game is amazing! At first the movement was a bit hard to get used to, due to it being very fast. But it helped A LOT while finding all the presents! The Music is amazing, it blends in perfectly with the environment! The Door Movement is very realistic, same with all the visuals! Near the middle of the game (I think), I screamed lol. I didn't even think there was a creature there. The entire game is very fun! The unsettling vibes were way too much, in a good way! This is one of the best Liminal Horror Games I've played! There were no bugs that I encountered, but I'll keep looking! From one Mall Horror Game Developer to another you did AMAZING!!! Also, how did you use AI Textures? I couldn't even tell that they were there! They just blended in so perfectly!
Thank you for this thoughtful comment! Yes the challenge we faced was designing survival-horror controls that weren’t slow/boring in the long term.
It’s good to hear that all the little features we added came together to create the unsettling mall vibe during your playthrough.
As for AI textures, there were 2 album artworks in the record store that were generated through AI.
Thanks again, and I’ll be definitely paying your mall a visit next!
i actually thought the movement was pretty satisfying, running fast and busting through doors. nice mall music and love the flamingo pond ;]
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the movement overall. Our artist will be happy to hear you appreciated the flamingos!
