Most old-school shooters tend to have you play with a gun and shoot monsters but I went the other way where you play as a monster and use tentacles to attack instead of a gun in a fast-faced retro shooter-esque game. So creating levels and enemy attack fit to that structure was an interesting challenge.

Tools
Aseprite- for art Jummb.us and Audacity for audio and Construct 3.

Lessons
Making a 3D Game in construct is a real pain in the ass. Also learned how to make music.

pretty cool! I especially like the pac-man style tutorial. Making a 3D jam game in Construct is a bold move, extra respect!

Great game. Completed it on first try (eating enemies kinda OP 😂). Can't agree with others about spikes - you did great adding boxes so that game can self-explain that props are destructible there. Every detail in the game was intuitive.

The game's visuals are great and neat way to teach the instructions. I wasn't aware I had to destroy the spikes in order to progress until after the third playthrough. I mainly backed away in order to avoid attacks when defending against enemies and I think it would be good to know when the eating ability was replenished. I made it up to the boss level but couldn't progress much after the spawns appeared.

oh man I started thinking: welp there goes another pacman clone! oh boy was I wrong!!! that was such a cool experience, I loved the ability to be the monster, the tutorial was a really fun way to introduce the player to the gameplay. The final boss and last cutscene were great! I'm also super impressed you did this in Construct! The music works great, it reminds me of E1M1 which is probably the vibe you were going for. Overall well executed, great job!

Thank you! The pacman clone gone-feral was actually the core idea I was going for-

the game basically is just Pacman-reads-Necronomicon-plays-like-Doom-with-tentacles so yeah the music was way too much inspired by Bobby Prince's work on Doom, E1M1 vibe was the the goal although only the Boss Battle music really got there which was made by https://iman-cc.itch.io/

Btw really loved Baba Yaga! I am pretty sure but if John Wick came out back in the 80s, this game would have been the official arcade game for it, it's really amazing! Always love me a good beat-them-up!

Great! The goal was a bit unclear at first. The tutorial was bit too cute lol ;)

Thank you!

Thank you, yeah Construct is a nice tool although I cannot recommend it for making 3D games, it has too many issues and the 3D is largely just for visuals so you are basically making a 2D game and 3D game at the same time xd

This is fantastic! I’ll admit I ended up lost and wandering so I never saw the ending, but this is spectacularly well executed!

Thank you! Yeah, the game is very hard to navigate, all the pixels tend to merge into each other and making it very disorienting, there is a CRTV mode which is slightly easier on the eyes. Also really loved you cosy game about death

Interesting game with really awesome art, that ending cutscene is really cool and the final boss is a sick set piece, with what seemed like different phases and stuff (It was a little tough to figure out what was going on I was just spamming left and right at them and trying to dodge the beams). The beginning bit where you learn the controls and then get into the actual game was a really interesting diegetic tutorial as well. I did have a bug where the mouse kept pulling down so I had to constantly adjust upwards, not sure if that's a me or a browser issue.

Awesome game!

Thank you, the ending cutscene was a very last-minute job but I'm glad it worked well, it was definitely fun to work on.

Someone also reported the mouse pulling down-bug but so far I haven't been able to reproduce it on the browser(Chrome,Edge) or the build but will continue to figure it out. In case you played on a different browser than Chrome or Edge, let me know - it could be a browser thing or maybe there is something that doing that

Yea sure I played on the most up to date Firefox version :D

Really cool game, love the style. Very impressed that this was made in Construct. I’m ass so I didn’t complete the second level (couldn’t find the last pyramid) but from the screenshots I can tell it gets cooler. Gameplay is slightly repetitive, and a nitpick is that the camera keeps looking down so I have to move the mouse up every time. Other than that, lots of potential!

Developer

Thank you, yeah construct has potential but I won't recommend it for making 3D games, the whole 3D functionality is purely visual.

Oh, no it is very difficult to navigate around in the levels tbh due to the pixels merging into each other and making it difficult to distinguish but there is another game mode- CRTV which can be switched on from the settings(start screen) and its easy on the eyes and also makes navigating very easy.

Regarding the camera bug, I have been made aware of it so far I have not been able to replicate it and fix on Chrome or Edge or the Build so incase you played the game on a different browser, please let me know it'll really help me in trying to figure out if its browser issue or something else.
