Themes
Spent first few days trying to figure out a hook. Then Ive noticed the _optional_ part. Closest to used would be peaceful, you can reach the top without attacking.
Tools
Godot and Gimp. Gimp is gimp, ugh. Godot is fun! Painless web export is a giant plus.
Lessons
Learning to use Godot! Will use it for more jams for sure. Also design practice

The movement is well balanced, The Juice and the sound design of the player elevated the experience. The enemies feel a bit hard to parry or defend against and there are times where you can fall into a pit of spikes unexpectedly. Solid Entry Overall.
I really liked the game. graphics and the visuals were very nice. I'm not sure if this was intended, but if i want to swing upwards, I'm assuming id have to click CTRL + W, and that closes my browser screen. Overall very fun game!
Ah good point! Ill add few alternative keybinds in addition to gamepad in an update. Though you cant attack up, it is just whatever the player is facing, left or right. The hitbox is pretty tall. But perhaps Ill add more directional attacks in combat update! Thanks!
Quite well done, I enjoyed playing through this! The controls and movement felt great and then got even better after the upgrades and additional mechanics. The level design was also consistent and I never felt lost or confused. Overall enjoyable and the perfect length for the jam.

I had a blast with this one! Great job, it had a nice atmosphere and gameplay! The sound design was super juicy, I very much enjoyed that. I think some atmospheric music could have really sold the game!

Simple, clean and fun!
There were a few spike locations that felt more nasty than others, and you can do a weird speedbounce you can do on the enemies (would be intersting to see a speedrun with that).
Well executed, could be expanded, well done!
Simple, fun and in some places challenging game. Best part of the game is visual design/graphics.

P.S.S. You are creating awesome game "Dart Racer" . It's trailer gave me nostalgic memories about the cartoon/anime "Oban Star-Racers" which I was watching when was young.
Great game! I like the graphics, the game has its own style. While playing the game it was difficult to kill the enemies and you could also add background music. Regardless, it's fun to play and that's what matters. Good job!
Well done! I was afraid that the game would be too short, but in the end, I needed 20 minutes to finish it (not 5!). I only minded uncomfortable controls and a lack of music.
really fun climbing to the top, loved the additional abilities along the way. As others have pointed out, combat wasn't its strong suit, but once I started just avoiding enemies rather than trying to kill them it became a lot more satisfying (love the fact that they will die on spikes as well!) Really great level design, I can see you spent a lot of time designing everything carefully. It would have been great to have a bit of music as well, but the rest is well executed. Great job!
Fun game! Enemy collisions seemed a bit off, but the amount of heart pickups countered it for me.

Fighting is a bit difficult, for me it was sometimes easier to just lure enemies into spikes than to directly fight them, but other than that I enjoyed it. Sound effects are top notch and they make this game juicy. :)
Awesome little platformer! The artstyle is definitely a 5/5 for me - simple, aesthetically appealing with lots of character. At first I worried the gameplay might be a little bit too simplistic, but a soon as I reached the first upgrade things definitely got a lot more interesting for me! I really like the metroidvania aspects of this game. Being able to dash through a wall that was previously inaccessible was satisfying progression.
My only complaint is the combat not being as punchy as I would've hoped, and the lacking audio.
Regardless this is a really good entry! I enjoyed it.
yeah i've reached the top! you did well with the little metroidvania exercise, I was surprised to get new skills and it works really well, all the implemented functions work super well. Indeed the fights are not very satisfying and you did not choose the easiest with the melee fights. What is missing for me is a little feedback and gamefeel for the players to make the whole thing more enjoyable to play. On the other hand the level design is really successful. And also I appreciated that you went to the trouble for the itchio page to include the map (or part of it).
Combat was certainly laking :( What sort of feedback you have in mind?

I reached the top. Really fun movement mechanics, once I got the dash and double jump I was zooming around the place like crazy. Satisfying controls and visuals, sounds good, and is fun. Was sad it was over so soon!
Nice solid platformer! It really needs gamepad support.
Fun game. Tight gameplay and long enough. Not a fan of combat though. Attempting in sword fight means you'll lose half of the life anyway, so it's best to avoid them. Dash attack partially helps but it's not a one-shot kill either. Perhaps a ranged weapon option could help so that you could throw the sword at the enemies. Some chiptune in the background would also benefit the game greatly I think, something that goes in sync with the jumps.

The movement was super satisfying in this game! I had a lot of fun finding my way around, backtracking and finding new areas to jump around in. The enemies beat me up frequently, but the plentiful hearts and checkpoints made it not too traumatic. Great level layout. Bug-free. Great submission!
