Great game utilising people's natural gambler's fallacy and fear of loss :D Literally, the more I have the more tense it is to decide wether I should roll one more time or pass. I never though a two-decision based game could be such addictive :D Really nice game ;)

Developer

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words.  You put together a great jam!

Nice dice roller! And can be nicely opened up with all sorts of side-mechanics!

Developer

Thank you!  If you do have any suggestions for side-mechanics I'd be thankful to hear them.

Of course! Here's a few I came up with (or shamelessly copied from other games):

  • High risk/high reward mechanic: being able to throw multiple dice at once, totalling the non-1's, but also a bigger chance to roll a 1 (or perhaps when failing allowing the computer to have several turns in a row). Might also give you a chance to catch up when you're far behind.
  • Being able to use rolled points to buy upgrades, such as better dice (d8's, d10's, etc.) and multiple dice (see first point) to create a pool of dice,  or critical chances (high roll's allow for an extra roll), or debuffs on opponent (such as cursed dice, where a 2 also is a fail).
  • Passive bonuses that always provide buffs, similar to the joker system in Balatro. For example, 'Three's a crowd' where every rolled 3 actually counts as a 4 in scoring.

And perhaps to throw in a theme as well: make it so you're playing dice against some evil (pig) god or demon, that'll only set you free if you can win from him. Every round you win, the stakes get higher, with more points, and more obstacles/debuffs.

And re-rolls, being able to re-roll one's might be a big mechanic for the multiple dice option to be feasible ;)

Wow, I love them, thanks for sharing ideas!

Nice little game.  good choice on the sounds!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I decided to go with arcade sounds  because I wanted more than one or two sfx for the dice roll.  From low value dice to high value dice the pitch increases with the value.

Cool interpretation of the game jam theme! I also won on the first try with exactly 100 points and played another round to find out if this is a winning criterion. Turns out, you need to get AT LEAST 100 points, this is not clear from the instructions. A second game mode where you're not allowed to have "1 point too many" would be a nice addition.

Thanks, I cleaned up the itch page and added better instructions.  Good ideas too, thanks!

I won on my first try!  Good dice-rolling strategy game, like Yahtzee but simpler.  The graphics and audio are decent.  The only thing I would recommend are other game modes - like player-vs-player (on the same keyboard, since it doesn't matter if your opponent can see your screen) or a 4P game:  Player vs Player vs two computer players!

Developer(+1)

On the same keyboard!  I didn't even think of that.  Thanks for a good idea.  I did think of multiplayer but of course my mind went to network play not local.  Having another computer is also a good idea and all are easy to work in.  Thanks!
