I AM RATING THESE ALL THESE JAM SUBMISSIONS RELATIVE TO ONE ANOTHER. THERE ARE HIGH HIGHS AND LOW LOWS BUT PLEASE DON’T TAKE THIS TOO PERSONALLY, AFTERALL, WE ALL ONLY HAD A MONTH.

Story (2):

I am only rating the story so low because at a certain point, the ending just drags on.

I kept expecting a Fade to turn to into a “THE END” but it just kept going on and on. Perhaps that’s supposed to be the point, like the rotting body that is MY WOLF.

Drowning me in references that I won’t understand is also a good way to make be disappointed.

Presentation (3):

The sprite edits and the disturbing act transitions really brought everything together.

You did a lot with what you could do. The CG was amazing. Side sprites and testing out the bubble text feature were interesting decisions.

Creativity (5):

This is the first submission that I’m rating that receives 4 or over in a category. (If you forget about me rating Before You Depart.)

You ready did say to yourself; “What’s the most fucked up thing that I can write for this jam without taking things too far?” And then you made it.

I was thinking that this would just be some sort of Yandere story or like a homage to the movie(/book?): Misery. But you took in a way that still has me quivering.

Total (10):

I am scared to look into your other works. Characters with scleras that aren’t white, freak me a out a little. After reading this, I don’t think I can look at Gin and Rohan the same way ever again. They now look soulless to me.

I think your review could be explained with a simple message. You might have ended up getting Ragged hehe

This one feels like an excercise in virtuosity: the strong characterization of the MC is on point and your writing skill are on full display.

However, I feel like the story is a bit too long for this kind of narration to go on without interruptions. Something to break the monotony would have made this much more enjoyable. Some shifts between this over-the-top voice and a more grounded perspective would have greatly enhanced the experience. Instead, the few bits when we actually get to hear some voices other than MC's end up being just as silly.

Still, the basic idea for the story is very good and, had it been shorter, I would have been on board for the entirety of the ride.

I like how the "my wolf" trope was handled in this visual novel. It was pretty eerie, and tbh this entry was well done! Probably one of the best I've seen in this jam by far. Congrats on getting into the jam!

This was a very spooky and surprising entry. There were some verbose sections (feel free to DM if you want more detail), but aside from that, it's a well structured story! The presentation was also tight, and the extra visuals and sprite edits definitely made it a cut above the average. Good job!

Developer

Haha yeah. As much as I want to joke that some of it was in-character verbose-ness, other parts were me slamming the pedal with no brakes.

make less references rag

challenge: impossible

The Imagry is a fun contrast to the text of these mad rambles of a MC Manatee

A pretty fascinating entry. It doesn't necessarily feel like there's a lot to it beyond the initial shock, but the prose is good enough to make it an engaging read, and I like how the concept is in conversation with the MY WOLF trope without feeling purely like a meta joke. While visually unpolished, the game has some good ideas there and there, and a nice atmosphere overall.

(Also, bug report: crashes with "OSError: Couldn't find file 'images/shook.png.'." Seems like there's a typo ("shook.png*.*") in the layereredimage definition.)

Developer(+1)

Ack, not a bug crash, I don't recall getting any of those when doing my test playthrough but I'll have to look again if not to at least have the final one (after the voting period) only reflecting no bug crashes.

Thanks for reading!  I'm always glad to hear it hit the mark I set out to do so.
