  • Graphically this gives us Mega Man Legends vibes, which is kinda cool. The movement feels strange in a way we find difficult to describe. The turning motion especially has an odd weight to it. The pacing could definitely be ramped up with drills as early as the first level. Beyond that everything works great, but there just needs to be more variety and challenge to lift this from tech demo to engaging game. Maybe a time limit or time based score mechanic?

Overall it was a very fun experience! Really liked the puzzle aspect of it, sometimes the sound bugged out when i pressed forward too fast, but overall I found the experience pretty cool, would have loved to have some music with it, but overall good job!

Nice 3D puzzler with a steady increase in difficulty and mechanics through the small level set.

PROS:

  • The movement of the mech was nice and responsive. I might have wanted the turns to happen more uniformly instead of having the slight lag into a whip turn, but it controlled well and gave me a lot of agency.
  • Each level did a good job of introducing something slightly new and more interesting than what I'd seen before so each level felt like it had a purpose.
  • The challenges didn't throw themselves at me too fast so I easily had enough time to figure things without feeling overly pressured.

CRITIQUE:

  • It's easy to get lost in the forest on some of the larger levels due to the low view in 3D so a mini-map on the UI would greatly increase quality of life for tracking where I am relative to objectives.
  • I really want to go backwards. I was still getting used to the actual size of the grid spaces in the first couple of levels and felt a little annoyed/clumsy when I overshot the space I wanted to stand in and had to do a double-turn to get back.
  • It might be intentional, but the peripheral  view feels very limited in the first-person. It forced me to do a lot of turning to remind myself how I was or wasn't lined up with objectives/enemies and that extra turning actually got me a little dizzy with the amount that ended up doing and how quick the turns scaled up to before they finished. Widening the field of view for the camera or giving a grid-based mini-map would help with seeing things just to the side of you or telling whether or not you're lined up with something.

very rich and detailed critic thanks ;^) I was thinking of implementing some kind of "jumping flash" jump to let you look at the map from the top ^^

That could work to give players the opportunity for the perspective. You'd just need to make sure that you're not jerking the player's view too quickly in first-person.

Awesome game! Only one possible bug or unintended feature I found... as long as you are facing the target when you throw the box and there's nothing between you and it, the box will just fly all the way to the target and land on it perfectly. Made the second level very easy, although I stopped cheating once I realized it was probably a bug ;) all the game needs is a fix to that and some music and more audio and this could be a fun little puzzler! Love the graphics and the controls. Good work!

Hi! I get this error when I try the web version with Firefox.

"An error occurred before the game window could be initialised. Please check the console!"

Though works perfectly with Chromium. The game's beautiful. I liked the visuals of different stages :)

Developer

thank you for the bug report :)

The web version works on windows, but not on my linux neither with google chrome nor linux. Please use the .love in case of problem...

Very fun Puzzle / Action Hybrid ^^

From the screenshot i didn't expect the grid based movement, but this works really well here and makes this quite original :D

I really like the chunky boxy pixel - ey look of the game its well made and feels authentically retro, like something that kinda has the look and feel of a super FX Snes game.

Gameplay wise i really enjoyed the fact that even if the movement is grid based, when you get the hang of it you can really speed through the levels its very satisfying.

Now i didn't have any particular issue with the game itself, however i did encounter a bug. The walking sound effects seemed to have randomly stopped working when i reached the first forest level and they never came back so i kinda played all of the rest in silence, i'm not sure what i did to trigger this though :/ maybe i moved too fast ? But not sure.

Regardless fun and solid. Good job :)
