This seems cool; a couple of bugs (such as jumping behaviour) but with nice touches; like the impact damage showing on the level blocks

Cool little prototype! I loved the graphics and that some of the environment to damage when shot. Everything you have in there feels good from the shooting and movement to the enemies. All it needs is some audio, built out levels and just general expansion and this could be a cool metroidvania! Good work! I don't know a thing about TIC-80, but from reading some of the comments below, it doesn't sound like an easy thing to use lol

The art looks great, the animations are really nice. All the mechanics that are there work really well. I especially enjoyed the destructible environment elements & the player character's animation.

As seems the norm with this platform, controls are especially awkward...

`z` and `x` are not adjacent on my keyboard.

I love the art and the concept. It would be great to see this expanded to a longer level!

Nice to have you back in the jam Hawkwork! I really liked the sprites in this, they looked fantastic.

Since I'm also using TIC-80 for the very first time in this jam I can really appreciate some of the effort you put in to the features that are in there. Sure, it's not a complete game yet, but I'm impressed by the smooth animations of both the walk cycle and the aiming of the gun, that must have taken some clever code!

The destructible environments and the nice artwork reminds me of Metroid, I can totally sense a neat mechtroidvania game hiding in there!

Cheers PoodlePilot, there is some maths behind the movement and the rotation functions. The leg displacement is built multiplying a step with a triangle function. The rotation isn't quite right yet, but it uses the tic80 methods for drawing triangles. I will polish up that method and write a devlog. Rotation around a point (other than the centre of the sprite) could be handy for other tic80 coders.

The artwork is really cool and I can see some good ideas running back there! Would have liked some sound effects but overall good job!

Love the artwork! The way the mech gun moves looks really great, super smooth. Actually feels like if I was pivoting a big machine. Great job!

The mech looks great. I like the concept. It looks great for a solo effort in the game jam timing.

Thanks Enjaku, the jam period is indeed short. I guess I could have done more if I had prioritized correctly. But hey maybe next year...

I understand the prioritization challenge! I have been glad for all the jams available here so I can discover ways I can create more efficiently. One of my teammates regularly reminds me to have fun along the way too - that balance is one of my challenges.

Cool prototype and i like the ideas on display here !

The segemented mech animation is really good an i like how you made the aiming sorta "lookspring"

to help the gun reset to 0 without manual fiddling.

The destructible blocks are also gameplay element.

One funny thing though, is that considering your game's title, the level layout and what i remember from your previous Mech Jam entry i expected to have a key to get out of the mech to reach smaller areas and see if there was more to explore XD

Gotta applaude the effort of making this in one of those virtual computers like pico-8 :o cause that has to come with some serious limitations !

Can't really say anything negative, cause it's unfinished, and that's ok considering the jam's time and that there's still quite a bit here for a solo effort.

So keep at it this has an interesting base to build upon, good job dude :)

Developer

Yes, it is very similar to mechavania which I did last year in libgdx. I wanted to add more enemies that you can kill and a proper win loose state so I didn't get round to implementing any of those ideas. Yep I will put some more work in now that many of the base systems are down.

Thanks for the kind words.
