Solid metroid worship, but it truly was worship. Even dismissing that, this game is so close to being actually really fun if it weren't for missing polish and reducing annoyances. Things like coyote time on jumping, or having blocks disappear slower. However! Thanks to all the work you put in, these are (hopefully) easily changeable things. Tweak it until it feels right and then pass it to a friend, and tweak it until it feels right to you both.

When I started playing it felt very clean and nicely polished. I really like the character design and the projectiles sound very crisp. The pixel art is very well done, too. I'm a sucker for small details and I definitely appreciated the flowing water from the first level.

As  I played the game more I felt there were some missing polish areas. There isn't enough audio or visual feedback when you're hit or you hit an enemy. I think the character should flip directions if you're holding right click and pointing behind the character. I really liked that when you killed an enemy you saw the blue stuff get absorbed into the character, though a death animation of some sort would have created a better overall effect. When the character dies you're instantly brought back to the main menu as well.

I would also encourage you to try to add in a bit more of your own unique ideas into the game. It felt too similar to the classic metroid games for it to really stand out for me.

Overall, solid work!

this was short but was quite fun

only nitpick is, i found it felt unresponsive when jumping off disappearing blocks. what a lot of platformers do is after pressing the jump (midair), they allow an extra few frames before landing to register the jump( as well as after the block starts disappearing so it doesnt feel unresponsive). that way your input doesnt just disappear

Thank you for the feedback, ill have it fixed in the post-jam version to be more responsive.

Very fun entry! I haven't managed to bit the boss but it is one of those entries that I will be definitely coming back after the jam. I regret not reading the page though because during my first attempt I didn't have idea I can aim to shoot! Fortunately second one I accidentally did it and it made the game even more fun :D. Good job!

Congratulations on the publication! The game is very complete. It has the main mechanics of metroid vania, the map is functional but it lacks indications for the connections between rooms. The combat bullet system with the mines is really different from the basic shot of the character and the level design forces us to use this mechanic, it's a good idea. The music and SFX are cool, as is the pixel art. Well done to the team.

im glad you liked my music, i did my best this was my first time ! i was feeling self conscious about it, thank you for complimenting about it.

I very much enjoyed this entry, short as it was. This is actually one of my favorite entries graphics wise; I think I am a sucker for the well done low res pixel art. I think the animation that is in is well done also. Decent enemy variety; loved the mini boss even though I thought he was a bit easy, he did kill me the first time though. Echoing others, the lack of checkpoints is a bit frustrating. Love the bomb powerup! I would very much like to see more of this game; not sure if you add to it or not but please leave a reply if you plan on adding more and I will definitely follow!

I was planning on adding alot more, theres also an underwater area but you have to farm bat wings to craft bat wings on the ship to get to that area although I didn't have time to add a boss for that area.  The elevator is also gonna lead down to an underground vegetation area which is gonna be pretty cool to design.  Thanks for your feed back, greatly appreciate it!

Well I will follow you just in case you do more work with it; I would personally love to see more. I would even play test some and give feedback if wanted, etc.

Overall, it plays pretty well, but man, starting over from scratch when you die is brutal. The graphics are pretty decent, but they're too dark to make out the details. In particular, I can barely see the bats when they're attacking me. Other than that, I think the graphics generally work.

I had the same experience - I haven't beaten the first boss yet since you get thrown all the way back after dying. I also had the same opinion of the graphics, the lack of detail wasn't bad since everything was the same style & it looked kind of nice.

Hi! I may be missing something obvious, but what am I supposed to do here? I can't figure out what to do or where to go from here. This looks like an elevator or something but I have shot it, bombed it, etc.

Developer

Yeah, sorry it is an elevator but it was the furthest I got before i posted the project so it goes nowhere.
