Wow. 馃槼This started strong, then I got to the second area and the game world opened right up... I'm going to have to come back to this one... 馃憤
This is amazing, really channelling a sort of N64-style sense of wonder.
One little thing, I had this one issue in the first area after picking up the weapon, where Left-Clicking would consistently reveal and unlock the cursor, in turn unfocusing the game. I found that holding any mouse button mitigated this issue in the short-term, plus the problem stopped entirely once I reached the second area.
Edit: okay, just noticed you're already aware of the bug 馃憤
Absolutely outstanding entry!
I love the ascetic, definitely gives me strong N64 vibes with some Playstation 1 bits here and there. The graphics and music capture that era perfectly.
The player movement feels excellent and very deep. The game gets more and more fun as you unlock more. The animations make everything feel very satisfying. The level design also complements the movement with consistently challenging and fun platforming sections.
I'm amazed at how large the game feels. I played for a couple of hours and still have not quite managed to finish it. (Although I think I'm pretty close to the end. I'll definitely be coming back to finish it of at some point.)
A few minor criticisms:
Overall I'm completely blown away by what you've achieved. If you choose to expand on it, I'd love to play a more fleshed out and polished version of this. If not, I look forward to whatever you make next! Hope you win the jam, full points. :)
This entry is IMO contender for first for sure. It's an amazing entry with really deep mechanics, and the retro look/feel just takes you back. I'm just really impressed with how much freedom there is in the movement - must have been really tough to design and fully make right.
I loved how fluid everything felt. It reminds me of a lot of things, prince of persia, akuji the heartless, and it's really solid all around.
Very cool game, the music, the visuals and the combat were all amazing! :)
Awesome. The controls are excellent and graphics look nice.
I'm having problems getting past the first part of the game. When I get the sword and attack with it the game glitches out. I lose control of the character who begins slide around unresponsively.
Not sure if anyone else is having this issue.
But still looks great!
aware of the issue and has already been fixed, but i cannot push the fix yet!
check the description for a temporary fix on your end!
Wow. Incredible stuff here. This game is so sick really. The music is great, it controls really nicely too. I had a lot of trouble exiting the wall kick room, almost to the point of giving up. A map of some sort would really pull it together. Great job though, really.
:D
This here is a masterpiece. I got pretty hyped when I saw the other comments, and it sure did not dissapoint, every compliment here is fully deserved.
The game looks simply gorgeous and plays like absolute heaven, specially after getting the sliding skill, that was the moment this game won me over. The wall kick was a little tricky to get used to, but when it clicked, oh boy, HOW it clicked!!
Honestly you know the game plays well when it legit made Q my new personal keybind for crouching on every 3D game I'll play from now.
I really love how the main character looks too, they're just super cool, and animated really well too.
And the music is also just so good... Specially the one from the Empty Bailey. That song legit gave me some chills when I heard it the first time, and I legit increased my volume just to hear it better.
The game also run surprisingly well on my laptop, and it has a pretty infamous reputation of not smoothly running Unreal games, or any 3D jam games at all. But sadly, the game was crashing a huge lot for me. It crashed on every single save point, wich was mildly incovenient, but the game still managed to save my progress regardles, so it didn't had much of an impact on those cases, but unfortunatelly I wasn't so lucky throught the entire game, because the "Tower Remains" in specific seemed to not want me to progress. That area in specific was crashing pretty often when I did wall kicks, and when it didn't crash on my wall kicks, it would crash on the switch inside the tower, that I assume activated the elevator to let me get to the save point on the lower floor. I still insisted a lot on trying to brute force my way into the tower (and the fact my last save point was on the empty bailey did help motivating me, since I got to hear a lot more of that song lol), but it simply wouldn't budge... This is the crash message if you wanna check it out.
I know you can't update the game during jam time, but I would gladly still try to play it again after the jam ends if you manage to fix that.
Even tought I wasn't able to finish it, this is already a personal contender for top spot for me too. This is a really impressive one.
some staggering praise here haha, thank you so much!
yeah it takes a bit of time to ramp up the movement but its real nice once you get a few moves. i'm really glad to hear wall kick clicked for you! i think most people agree that once it clicks its nice, but some people never get there and we could definitely do more to smooth that process over, haha
i am very sorry to hear about your crashes!! looking into the D3D device error, it doesn't actually seem like there's much i can do on my end! There's a few fixes i'm reading but the most common one just says to try upgrading your graphics drivers. So lemme know if that or anything else you might find works, and i'll see if there's anything else on my end
Ey, thank you for awsering!
I actually did receive a warning telling me to update my graphics driver every time I opened the game, but since it seemed to be working fine after I declined so I assumed it wasn't the actual reason of the crashers (at least not alone.). Even then, when I actually went to check wheter or not I could update my drivers, my laptop said it actually is in check (last update was 03/03 this year, aparently).
I'm really not very knowledgeable when it comes to this kind of more technical stuff, but I'm afraid my hardware might be just a little too weak sadly, but I really have no clue myself lol.
Amazing game! Terrific movement, good metroidvania logic (although some kind of mapping/directing tool could be useful), awesome aesthetic, would recommend
Utterly amazing game that I would support a full project of without hesitation! The music and atmosphere made me feel like none other, and every new area filled me with surprise and wonder! The movement mechanics are excellently done and flow well, and the game is a blast to play. Some minor glitches were mildly annoying, but did nothing to hamper my overall entrancement with this game!
This game is great, took me back in time to era of early blocky tomb raider or croc. I enjoyed the fluidity of movement once I got to the slide into long jump part, before that i felt really sluggish and rooms were pretty empty. I dig the aesthethic, it could use some more props here and there, a few walls had weird texture stretching and I could look into void in some places, but overall it looked fantastic. Definitely a contender for the best game in the entire jam, love it!
It took me by surprise just how damn cool and transfixing the game is. I really enjoyed my time with it, and I love the movement and controls surrounding it. The atmosphere is incredibly dreamlike, and the music does an amazing job conveying the feelings that this disjointed world envokes. Level design also greatly compliments the theming too, and getting to move on after a tricky combination of movements is really satisfying. I did get lost for a while, but I usually do and in my eyes, that's not an issue with this game!
Walljump could probably feel a little more intuitive, but aside from a few sections that's not too bad to contend with! Overall I highly recommend this game, and I will be following rittz and their development team for projects to come! I would personally pay the asking price if this turned into a full game. Hopefully that happens in the future, I'd love to see it!
Edit, 4/04/23: THE COMMENT ABOUT THIS GETTING TURNED INTO A FULL GAME AGED SO WELL! I'm excited for the full release!!!!
Shit is FIRE, great style, music, and shmovement. Just feels good to move around at a break neck pace. Hope this movement system is used in future projects by this team.
Easily the best game played in the jam so far-
The game is insanely fluid, where you're chaining together abilities to traverse huge distances. Each upgrade feels unique in your toolbox- from a lunge that lets you spring up, to wall running, to a super unique air-dash, the tools you use feel second-nature. Each area is extremely evocative, with a banging soundtrack to listen to as you explore. 5's across the board, with a 4 in Design- There are two enemies that seem to be placeholders, while some level elements are less explored.
That aside... this game is amazing, fairly long at 2-3 hours, and an absolute blast to play. It's beautiful, with an amazing PS1 / Gamecube dreamy aesthetic. Everyone should give this a shot, 9.5 / 10, would absolutely pay to play this.
This is an incredible game! This could easily be a full game that I would pay for.
The levels, character desing, music, animations, enemy variety (except that texturless turret, which was funny), were all amazing. And the movement, with the different upgrades is so fun.
Congratulaitons in the awesome game, and can't believe it you did all of this in less than a month.
