Yeah, multiplayer, even local, can be a bit crushing when you are alone with no friends;o :p

However, considering one possible limitation before the jam was 'Local Multiplayer', it seems to show pre-planning, which is always good to do!

Anyway, the design and graphics are very good, love the chosen colour contrast, between yellow and purple (well, maybe except the 4th frog, which is a bit strange), and the music really fits the environment.

You know that considering the probability of a catchable object appear on each side of the screen is the same, and even though each frog can launch its tongue, catch an object, and wait sometime x time to relaunch again, the players in the middle are always at a mathematical disadvantage, right?

It is a good party game! But don't speak breakfast next time :p

Developer

i thought of the disadvantage, but then I saw that the frogs at the sides have basically no time to get insects from their side, but they have a lot of time to study the trajectory of the ones coming from the opposite side, while the center frogs get less time to study the trajectory, but more opportunities overall, so it basically balances out :)  thanks for the review!

Enjoyment: Right off the bat, I thought the setup of this was very cute, the area you've put together is enjoyable to be in and If i had my little cousins over, I'd definitely want to play this with them, I think it has a wholesome family vibe to it that's really cool.  I enjoyed it minimally as this game revolves around that couch co-op social energy, alone it feels quite empty.  I don't think this game needs to be couch co-op specifically though, a 1 player mode would have the exact same gameplay and clearly it works cause half the games are exactly that.. however, I wouldn't pitch it as a 1p game as socially I can see this lasting, and 1p idk.

Concept: The concept is solid, frogs trying to feed their selective palettes together in a swamp.  Maybe to make this more competitive it would've been interesting to see how it would play in a hungry hungry hippo-esque setup, where everyone is just trying to get as many as possible?  It reminds me of a Mario party mini-game.

Presentation: As beautiful as this game is to behold, one thing that hindered on the enjoyment was actually due to the muted tones of the game, I really like the muted blue, but I think it makes the game less readable for it, if you made the frogs the same colours as the thing they need to get, it would just make it easier to play and you wouldn't really need any instruction, or having that object next to the frog (which was a real nice touch admittedly)

Use of Limitation: Good call on making it a single pond with multiple frogs.. just generally doing a couch co-op thing is great for 1 map kinda stuff cause the social aspect can carry that map a long way.  Sucks that its not suited for this kind of game jam cause a lot of people don't have others around them.

hi, first of all thanks for the huge feedback! You're right, maybe going for a party game wasn't the best idea for a game jam, but i wanted to experiment with one so I just went for it :p. As for the palettes, at first the only thing that changed between insects was the color, which was the same as each frog, but since many people can't properly see colors, I wanted to make the game playable in greyscale as well, to make it more accessible. I kept the color differences between insects, but I also drastically changed sprites and animations to be very different to each other. Thanks for playing!

I like this kind of soothing music! Do these insects appears completely randomly? I find that in some periods of time, a certain kind of insect is much more than other insects. But yes, that's also a fun experience!

Developer

yes, they're completely random, I guess it wouldn't hurt to balance the spawn rates a bit to avoid hordes of a certain type, but balancing takes time, so I just stuck with randomness for now. Maybe I'll work on it in the future :)

The game looks good! We really dig the concept but the lack of simple single player mode makes it hard to actually play with consistency.

Adorable game! I actually the 2 player mode could be made into a pretty fun 1 player mode, just trying to balance both frogs fly catching

This was a fun frog party mini game! The art was good and liked the music too! -nice job! :D

Really liked the concept. With more polish this could be pretty fun.

I thought this game was very nice and cute. Firstly, I like how the gameplay is very simple and easy to understand. Second, I love the art style with the way it's mixed between 2d and 3d, and I also love how the colors are very consistent. Third, the music is very fitting and has a cool vibe. Even though I played by myself, I still enjoyed it, and I am sure it would be even more fun with friends.

Developer

thanks! I somehow convinced my parents to try it and we had a blast,  playing it with someone definitely makes it better :3

I like what you did here :). I like how you also implemented multiplayer, I was able to play against my brother for a bit. I sucked lol, he was so much better at grabbing the flies and fireflies than I was xD. I'm a fan of the art and level design, everything just blends together so well. 5 stars!

Lovely game, I like the presentation and the looks of it, kinda unlucky there's no single player mode

Fun simple game. Sadly, I don't have friends to play with during these tragic times. The frog character is cute^^

THAT is a really nice game art, color pallette and presentation. I like that is really going well art-wise despite not being in frog-colors, so extra points for me :)

Developer(+1)

thanks! I always try to stick to a certain palette when making a game, I find that limiting the colors makes my inexistent art skills a bit better :D
