It's a nice little game. Really wanted to finish it, but unfortunately it seems I got too excited throwing the matches around that by the end it made the game run in like 15fps, and I was not able to jump precisely and kept falling. I knew it could happen but for some reason kept throwing matches everywhere. I got past like 6-8 hedgehogs, I don't know how to tell where I stuck.

What I would definitely do is make the intro text faster, with a button to speed up the text, it feels a bit too long.

We had a similar implementation of the theme, but I liked how you gave it more depth and story.
Nicely done!

Very interesting concept. I used the torches as breadcrumbs; not just lighting my way forward but also finding my way back.

Got a bit lost, wasn't entirely sure where to go. Often in game jams its unclear how much content there is. My suggesstiong would then be, at least for game jams, better hint at or outright say what to expect. Otherwise, if someone gets lost they might be left wandering if there is any more content to explore or not. Just a thought.

Overall, a cool game. I see you added several metroidvania-esk features. I like.

Thank you for your comment, I will keep that in mind.

The game is a complete experience: explore the cavern, find the treasure, go back home. The “getting lost” is part of the experience since it’s a cavern after all. I wanted to add glowing flowers to help the adventurer along the way but I didn’t have time.

Okay I REALLY liked this one! There was some great attention to detail as well as good humor. I too, unfortunately got stuck before the hedgehogs, however I found what I assume is a glitch where if you time the press of the spacebar perfectly it allows you to do a wall jump so I made it through that section.
My favorite sections in the game were definitely the big open Caverns with the hedgehog parkour. It was super satisfying to have the big bounces and very challenging.
The ending sequence was INSANE super cool and intense (I'm not gonna spoil it for anyone). I do feel it was a little bit too penalizing when you made a mistake in the ending bit, cause it would set you back a long way, but it was definitely a thrill :D
Also my frames per second started dropping pretty heavily after a while but that's a pretty minor concern.
this as a lot of fun, good stuff!

Thanks for trying my game and keeping your comment spoiler free :) Glad you liked it.

I tried to fix most of the slowdowns. Did you throw a lot (200+) torches?

No problem! And yes haha I was LIGHTING up the cavern. I wasn't being shy with the torch placements, definitely the cause of lag

This game is very atmospheric and moody. I loved the torch mechanic - it made me feel like I was truly exploring the unknown. The checkpoint mechanic was also really nice.

I eventually hit a point where I didn't know what to do. I got to the first checkpoint, and was able to see some porcupines but couldn't ever get to them to use my handy dandy boots. I went up and then left, and that didn't lead anywhere. I also went to the right past all the floating platforms above the void. Eventually I ran into a wall that was too tall for me to jump up. I'm not sure if I missed a control or not during the tutorial - I learn a lot better when I can try out the controls while I'm being told how they work.

Nonetheless, I really liked the theming and the humor. I wish I was able to get further. Nice job :)

Thank you for trying my game! I know where you got stuck. I uploaded a new version with hopefully a small hint that will help players along the way in that section.

Let me know if you try again and it helps you!

You probably didn’t miss any controls, but point taken on the “try while being told”.
