Some great animation and glow effects! The rocket mechanic was neat, I wish it was introduced even sooner into the game because it has a lot of potential! Great work! :)
Thank you so much for playing it!! Cheers
Your game has a lot of great elements! I love how you spruced up the sprites with some glow and coloring. Very nice pizzazz. And the fall animation on the character was really pleasing.
Also, that water reflection ... stunning. I wish that had been used more! Maybe in the future "forest" level :)
I'm not sure whether I liked that there were multiple paths through the last two levels. On one hand, that allows the player to be creative. On the other, I had to play through multiple times to confirm that there really only were single exits XD And it took me those few times to get pretty good at using the rocket to traverse, so I would love to see that mechanic being honed and really utilized for traversal!
Thanks a lot for playing our game! I’m glad you liked the graphics, we spent quite a lot of time doing the sprite animations by hand and figuring out how to get the glow working properly on Godot xD
Did you follow any tutorials on the glow? I've got a game project in Godot that I would like to try lighting in!
Yeah there are some tutorials on YouTube but they are a bit lacking…I’m thinking of making one myself…the main idea is to use a worldenvironment node, set it to canvas mode, and turn on glow. Then from the script you can set the modulate value of any object to a high number (more than the HDR threshold set in worldenvironment node) and it will glow on screen…for example
modulate = Color(4.0,1,1)
will make it glow red…I hope this helps :)Thank you! I will give it a try. Eventually, I will have to learn shaders too. *Shudder*
Shaders are not that hard, trust me!
Cool game! loved the idea of using rockets to jump on them and help you reach areas further away
Thank you so much for playing the game !
This was a pretty solid platformer. I enjoyed the platform/weapon mechanic, I actually jumped around for a bit in one of the bigger rooms mastering how to go higher and further without touching the ground. The lighting of the sprites was also cool, they seemed really alive and neon so nice work there. The name of the game itself also gets top marks from me.
I think the sound effects were a bit loud compared to the music and the scorpions' fireballs got a bit repetitive. A had some very minor graphical glitches with sprites not perfectly lining up, but this may be related to the web build. I think the level design was OK but could have benefited from more sections where the only way to progress was to use your platform/weapon.
Overall a good entry, well done!
Thank you so much for the feedback!! Yes, the glitches were pretty strange and we didn't find it on our dev build.
I like the lighting and sound design a lot, particles look great too! I accidentally got stuck in the ground when I tried to shoot on a slope unfortunately so I had to stop playing. Great overall though!
Thanks for playing the game !!
I enjoyed the base experience but there were enough nit picks to bring the major experience down for me.
The consistency needs to be improved and I look forward to seeing more in the future.
Thank you for playing it and the pointers you gave on the gc were really helpful!!
Pretty solid game. I enjoyed the rockets and that you can stand on them. The jumping platforms could use some tweaking though. The level design is ok but nothing to special. It lacks a general feel of direction espacially in the later levels
Thanks for playing it !!
The mushroom jumps could do with some consistency. IMO it should not even be necessary to press jump when landing on them considering that the level design requires it almost every time. This could also just be solved by giving the player one more block on those few jumps that require the full size of the jump. If you're going to require precision platforming, some coyote time (letting the player jump for a little time after walking off a ledge) would be appreciated. My favorite mechanic was the tree hoverboard, and I think the last level made good use of it. I think it would have been nice to be able to jump through the bottom of the tree to get on top of it though. With the short time window you have before it starts moving, It can sometimes be a bit tough to get on it in time. Great work!
Haha, we actually did implement coyote timing and the ability to jump under the tree to get on top of it, but the latter was only restricted to when the rocket is just shot. Thank you for the feedback, we appreciate it a lot!!
Thanks for the feedback!
After some introspection, it seems that we couldn’t properly convey what we wanted to achieve with the mushroom…we wanted the player to hit jump as soon as they step on the mushroom (acting as sort of a jump boost), and not later when they are in air. As the latter is more often found in popular platformers (Celeste for example), it lead to some confusion.
A better tutorial might have helped I guess.
Also yes there is 0.3 seconds of Coyote time…the time window before the rocket starts moving really is a bit too short, we should have play-tested the game better to notice this earlier
But yeah thanks a lot for taking the time out to play our game and provide some great feedback !
It indeed looks very nice, even when it's just the minimalistic pixel art, the light makes it look really fancy! Platforming was good, enemies as well. Perhaps some jumps were a little to tight and I feel like the shots timing is a bit akward for jump on it. But I liked it alot!
Thanks for playing our game! Yeah I agree some jumps were a bit too tight, we should have play-tested it better…
It is funny how the bloom effect changed the game so much. Looked good played decently. Jump platforms were a little hard time correctly but overall pretty good.
Thanks a lot !
This is really fun and the lighting effects are awesome. Great job!
Thank you so much !
