It's a fun idea, I enjoyed playing it and the music too!

Charming bright visuals, lovely hand-drawn backgrounds, and an up-tune beach music to complete the aesthetics! I like the vibe the game gives off, and is a good take on the game jam theme!

The creating ice cubes to use as platforms was a creative idea, I like that!

I did have some troubles with the gameplay though:

  • It's a bit confusing which items I can jump on, or which are just part of the background.
  • Getting reset to the very beginning is a bit frustrating.
  • Cuby gets stuck on collidable objects often when colliding with them from the side, leading to the ice I created melting too early before I can touch the ground.
  • In the tutorial, it was a bit confusing how I should've stacked the 3 cubes. If I clicked 3 times and stacked it 3-cubes-tall, then my character couldn't jump over it. Instead I settled by having to slightly think outside the box and create a triangle to jump up.

I enjoyed playing through your game though, and the visuals honestly made my day :)

Thank you for the lovely review, glad Cuby made your day. Yeah, the gameplay and player/visual guidance definitely can always be improved, I'll take your valid points into consideration =)

Loved the visual aspect, the music and the happy beach vibe that the game offers. Hope to see you improve the controls a bit and the collision with objects.

Personal notes and suggestions:

  • Had an instance where the umbrella (F key) did not worked at all. Maybe some more game testing of this can help here.
  • Also for me it was some times hard to differentiate between the foreground objects (nearby objects) with which the cube collides and the background objects (far objects) which are only decorations.  Some suggestions:
    • Visual differentiate the objects by aspect and color. For example maybe only the interactable closer objects can have a dark/back border and the background objects can have lighter/pale color.
    • Create visual planes and layering. Maybe you can try having the foreground objects resting on some sand dunes, as well as the cube (the player). As this way they will look closer.  You can also try to group and place objects on different layers.

Depending on your experience you can also have a search for how to create a "parallax effect" in Unity, although it might be harder to understand and learn, but could be a fun future project.  :D

Keep up the good work!!

Thanks, hope you enjoyed Cuby! The float should really always work when you jump, that's strange. I actually did create a parallax effect, the screen is always scrolling with you and the sea and sky are at a different speed from the beach. But I do agree more work could be done by creating more depth on the layers. Thanks for your suggestions!

really nice game. had fun playing it. having trouble with some controls but it went well.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for enjoying Cuby! Yeah, controls are important but also hard to nail for a platformer but I'm glad you still enjoyed it

Good game. Love how Cuby looks. The game has good mechanics. The game's physics is quite unforgiving to the player, but it doesn't dampen the overall experience. In short, Cuby is cool and so are you.

Your comment really made my day <3 Cuby waves back from the glass he safely made it to

Nice and cozy game, I remember talking about this in Discord and I was eager to try it out! I'm amazed how much you improved, there might be some little bugs but as for this jam, very well done keep up the good work!!

This game is looking good, but you need to add a physics material with all settings set to 0 and apply it to all box colliders exept player

Developer(+1)

Really helpful comment, I tested it and it improves the platforming gameplay feel! Hope you still enjoyed
