Description
A pulsing, intense soundtrack for a horror/runner game. The Title Theme is a calming piano version of the main theme, a more upbeat track before dropping you into the horror of the woods as you try to escape from an encroaching force in Stage 1. As you reach a safe location, the Stage Clear jingle signifies your relief. Then you come face-to-face with the force in the final track, the Boss Theme. Everything was composed in Garageband and all was streamed on my twitch!

Message from the artist:
Thank you for checking out my music! This was my first "larger scale" OST Jam and I'm pretty proud of the work I did on it!

Theme:

Runaway
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
I went with the concept of a "Runner" to match Runaway, and used the idea of escaping into the woods from something chasing you (as an interpretation of the image) to create the tone of the tracks.

Alright, I do agree that your OST doesn't really give me horror vibes, but it still was a good listen.

The title theme really did give me Minecraft vibes, which made me nostalgic about playing it in the Xbox 360 (which is broken now and I hope it can be fixed, Java and Bedrock just isn't the same for me ;(   )

What did feel quite horror tho was the boss theme. So these 2 themes I really liked. Great Job!

And since you are using Garageband on Mac, for your future tracks, I recommend trying to get VSTs or something for strings, as I feel that the standard Garageband strings doesn't really sound too well, the most decent strings in Garagaband rn would be Hollywood Strings in the Synth Pads. Since I just use the IOS version, I'm stuck with the normal strings and feel quite limited. You're free to feel otherwise tho.

I actually use Sfzorando for all my strings because the base garageband ones weren't great, you're right.  It's a full set of orchestral instruments but I still don't have a good saxophone which I desperately want.  Thanks for the feedback!

All right, honest feedback, it didn't feel horror BUT I feel like you have the right ideas of what you want but don't know how to execute it. For exemple the main theme you're using chord like the song I'm not in love by 10cc its a love song with the same instrumentation and chords the way they execute it felt like this but you can put these chords and add something crazy behind and make it feel horror if you change maybe only the bassline you could be surprise. You have a lot of possibility. The Title screen felt really minecraft but its a nice sweet piece you got there. The more I listened to it the more you started to find some sound that fitted the theme. Keep it up !

Nice work. The opening theme feels quite calm. It's a nice theme, but it didn't really give me the feeling that I was about to play something scary. This may have been intentional, I don't know. Sometimes it can indeed be nice to give a false sense of security before you drop the player into the dark.

Rolling into the main theme next, I felt things were picking up speed a bit. I quite like the drums and flute. Especially the second drum set is quite nice. Again though, it didn't feel particularly scary to me.

Stage 1 is next. This definitely seems a bit darker. Here I think the timbres you chose make it quite a bit more creepy already. I think the juxtaposition of the kind of happy melody in major key and the darker baseline definitely made me a little uneasy. I was expecting the track to slowly get more extreme over time and it did a little, but then the track was over. I was hoping for a bit more dissonance, or some unusual sounds. Still a good track though!

The boss fight definitely sounds a bit darker still. I do like that the soundtrack slowly gets darker and darker as it progresses. It does make you wonder what comes next. I also like the tremolo you have here on the strings.

Overall, still a very cool theme. Favorite is definitely the boss theme.

Nice, it didn't feel very horror like, but was interesting, my favorite track was Run Away - Boss Music, the violins with tremolo was a really nice touch.

The first piece is nostalgic as heck, it reminds me of Minecraft. I love it.

Really cool tracks!

Track 1: this piece was pretty!

Track 2: I really enjoyed the percussion here, though I didn't really feel a sense of horror or nervousness from these chords-- try to experiment with stranger rhythms and stranger, less consistent harmonies.

Track 3: this track definitely felt more ominous and scary, though the major chords and harmony again inhibited it from feeling too creepy. Overly major stuff can sound creepy-- you've just gotta own it!

Track 4: Cute little jingle!

Track 5: Now we're talking-- that low piano droll is the perfect way to add intensity. Definitely my favorite of the 5 tracks!

In all, I think the soundtrack would benefit from a bit less repetition and more nuanced rhythms and harmonies. HOWEVER, you still killed it and I am impressed with everything!

One of the biggest things I'm still working on/learning with composing is the line between making something more interesting and making something TOO complex, so I'd agree I could've made stuff a little more variable.  Re: the stuff not feeling creepy, I get that too.  I've gotta work on getting outside my comfort zone with the chords and stuff I've LEARNED and just experiment a little more.

Thank you very much for the feedback!
