Michael Wood - Mountains To Climb
(A Celeste Tribute)
Is this a cover, tribute, or medley?
Description
I composed the track in FL Studio. I spent a good while listening to the Celeste OST and making notes of the style. Lena Raine has graciously provided a lot of information on her sounds, which I used to reproduce some of the characteristic synths (e.g. https://medium.com/@kuraine/a-little-bit-about-celestes-synths-and-some-bonus-piano-461f62605ea1). I used the first part of the song "Resurrections" as a reference for how to structure the song.
Originally the track had no bridge (which is consistent with Celeste style), but my friend WiL convinced me to give it a try. It's now my favorite part of the song!
I learned so much doing this project! I made my first custom synths, got much more comfortable with delay and reverb, and learned how to reverse samples (which I used to get that cymbal effect).

I'm getting a few Chrono vibes here and there, particularly from that piano sample - I think that was a great choice of sample that could have made or broke the track. It made it alright.
Everything blends together incredibly well and is paced perfectly for me. A lot of emotion conveyed and comes together as one. Can't say much more really, truly awesome.
Beautiful
very nice! the bridge is my favorite part too, it really brings the song to another level for the coda. good choice!
yo this is epic
YES! I feel that you captured the soul of celeste while still leaving room to be yourself, good work :D
Awesome job on this one. I really like all of the sounds you've put together to get this authentic style. The part at 2:05 where it kicks it up, and then the little arpeggio comes in right after that was great! Nicely done, this track is made for looping, I'm jammin.
Nice work!
Really lovely music, great job with the celeste vibes.
I love the effects on the drums! Really atmospheric but still intense, perfect for a tribute to Celeste.
I don't know how to say it other than this track really feels "unified" ^^
Everything builds on what was before for a really great ending. And the bridge is really cool too and clearly gives more impact to the ending hehe
Nice arrangement!
This is a neat take on Celeste's musical style, good work!
Love the big washy 80's snares, great stuff. Only thing missing for the full celeste sound i think is the felt piano sound.
If you didn't know, you can get the spitfire felt piano for free as part of their LABS instrument series. That's what Lena Raine used in celeste, at least it sounds like it.
Thanks! It's funny you mention this because I actually own this vst but never considered using it for this song for some reason.
