You've got a point. But regardless if this is the case or not, the player's perception would be that your using multiple colors, and they'd likely ding you for that. I'd play it safe and stick to the first method or the alternative of pallet swapping.

I liked it! I especially like the aesthetic of the 2nd stage. Happy to see the parallaxing backgrounds in there, that is always satisfying. The aiming felt good as well. I like the spooky 8 bit music.
The only thing I'd suggest is maybe adjusting the speed of jumping around and a bit of hit feedback on player character. Nice job!
For such a movement heavy game I was surprised at how many components there were to traversal! I had my hand in a claw shape activating all my left hand buttons XD
This felt super smooth, I really like the visuals too for how smooth they were, you added a lot of depth and satisfying elements like the motion blur and lighting etc.
I figured out a way to abuse the wall jump, which was quite fun lol. Overall good entry! I enjoyed this game.
It was an interesting setup too, you managed to keep surprising one stage at a time.
This is great man. Every puzzle feels just out of reach long enough that you go YES when you solve the next step. Love the writing too. Great atmosphere. And I like the "feeling off" vibe going on too. Right amount of obscurity with just enough reality to make it feel grounded in a distorted way.
Good graphics and music too! Very cool submission
Hello, I am an experienced composer of 10+ years and sound designer.
I have been in 6 jams, and am very active.
I got into visual novels with series like Steins Gate and VA-11 Hall-A, but also have a background of anime and JRPGs and strong narrative driven experiences with a fantasy flare.
Would love to see what kind of experiences I can help bring to life. I'd like to find an awesome artist so we can breathe life into each other's work. You can DM directly on discord at Tetsu#2481 so we can build some inspiration :)
Hi! Thank you for the kind words! We do have much more game to deliver! Unfortunately due to a game breaking bug discovered at the time of submission, we were unable to fix our game in time. We are working diligently to fix our game to be fully playable from start to finish! The whole experience is much longer and the whole game is fully voiced. I hope you return to play the full game when we have it up ^^
A goose would make an excellent Kaiju monster lol. I really dig this idea! The scale really sold this concept. I loved the planes movement and the sprite switching when you do a loop-de-loop and come back around again so you're still the correct position. I ended up using the engine on/off clicking to my advantage to try and get more shots on the goose. Wished there was some audio, but all in all nice job!
Oh yeah, I came here earlier to review your entry! I got distracted by your Chrono Cross comment lol.
As you are now aware, I'm a huge Chrono series fan. My last pastime jam was Chrono Trigger also!
You picked out a great selection of tracks. There are so many amazing ones to choose from, you can't really go wrong. Your songs had great transitions. Also you really nailed the original sound but still having it feel unique. Ending on 'Chrono Trigger' was a great choice as well, really leaves you reflecting on the rest. 8 songs is alot to cram into one jam, so kudos on getting this all together in time! Nice job!
So damn good. I love all of the sounds you use. Definitely become a fan of your music since I started doing these jams. Consistently high quality, and you totally have a style. I have so many questions about OpenMPT too. I used to use BMS creator when I was first making music, and it was like a very basic version of this but for BM98. I'd like to try out another DAW and this is super interesting because it's so different from FL. How do you master the track? Are you using VSTs as well? I would love to know all those details. Great stuff as always!
So soothing. Keeping this subtle and with room to breathe was an excellent choice. The bells go perfectly with the piano. I feel like I'm recalling a sweet memory on the sand, to one of my best friends before they have to leave for a long time. You nailed it with the title, I could all but see the ocean waves you conjured. To quote you "I particularly like how it ends" also! Very sweet. Nice job!
This was so 'real'
This type of music playing really speaks to me. It sounds as nature intended. I was happy to see someone else inspired by nature and the garden. When I was looking for ideas, that's where I went ^_^ It's a great place to really take in where we are, and forget about our daily lives. Wonderful calming cover. I wouldn't change a thing. You should be proud of your work.
I was curious to see how many people would do anime covers this time around! I thought I was the only one ha ha.
You've managed good timing with this piece considering the original is a longer piece. The song translates well to an orchestral ensemble. It was interesting hearing the vocal parts transposed as an instrumental as well.. This happens to be one of my favorite songs in the show, so it was a pleasure seeing it in the JAM. Nice job!
I really like this almost wild west roll to this. This song feels both classic and heroic. You really nailed that driven feel the original had. Nice guitar playing! I can totally hear the absent vocals too, I think you should still try it! Not sure if you've ever played Wild Arms, but this gives me Wild Arms vibes.
Nicely done. Jammin.
I knew after the last JAM that you wouldn't' disappoint on volume of songs. And here we are again, 7 songs in one medley!
Your transitions between songs are totally on point. You structured it exactly how I would expect from a live band performance but in the capsule of a video game montage. It felt like an awesome credit scroll sequence. You really nailed the sound scheme too, this sounds like it totally belongs in Kirby 64, I'm surprised that I don't see soundfonts on your list of tools.
Awesome job!
I love a good medley. I got to listen to this one in my car, on my way to work this morning and it was a soothing ride <3 At the time I didn't know it was a medley, so when I heard Suteki Da Ne come in, I was very excited. I've listened to it 2 more times since. You've connected these pieces in a way where they feel like they were meant to be one. Great job!
This was a pleasant intimate experience. These songs translate very well to this format. You've turned these powerful emotional songs into a cozy bed-time story. With the originals they felt like you were living the emotion. Here, it feels like you're remembering it, but in your own personal way. Great melding of tracks and instrumental choices as well. Nice job!
You really took the original and turned the hyper thrusters on! This sounds like what I'd expect from a full orchestra rendition at a concert hall venue. Honestly, I can say I quite prefer this rendition. The original carried a lighter tune for what was a visually striking enemy. You really nailed it with your instrument choices here, especially the two-fold vocal additions. True to the original while also filling out some much-needed dynamic structure. Well done!
You've transported me back to the days of Klonoa and Ape Escape but throw me on a Dreamcast and a bit of Musashi Samurai Legend. So so so smooth and clean! The mixing is absolutely superb. Love all of the synths and percussion change ups too. I caught interest of your DAW during the last JAM, and now I need to know more about it! DM me so we can chat XD. This sounds so good. Excellent work!
This was a fun ride! I am a total softy for upbeat and nostalgic adventurous melodies. The Adventure
Begins and and Through the Forest had me itching to jump back on my PS1. Love your source reference of Rayman 2 and push for leit motifs! Everything went really well together and kept me engaged. Nice job guys :)
Love that the different themes here! Your list of inspirations was so on point! It was exciting to see what would come next. I'm sorry you had to cut content. I was in a similar boat with a specific song that got cut. Really love your instrument choices and how the songs flow together. And the percussion too, was exciting hearing how each song utilized them differently (from traditional to an almost jazzy vibe at the end!) Would love to see the fully realized version! What you have here, you should be proud of. Nice work! Totally feel you on the work hard/stress drive. I know this very well. Enjoy life to the fullest at a pace that suits you, definitely wisdom in that. Thanks for sharing!
