Cute piano track . Love the tempo automation . Greath work!
Thank you! Automating tempo has always felt super clunky but I'm glad I got it working.
This one's a reviver!
But seriously, great composition, loved the emotional progression. Good stuff.
Thank you!!
Wow, the somber solo piano is perfect for the description you came up with! The images of the reversed midi also look nice, almost like an ink blot test :)
Thank you! And absolutely, I can't help seeing faces in the screenshots =O=
Very nice track, subtle and grim. Good composition.
Very nice track, subtle and grim. Good composition.
Thank you!!
the piano is beautiful! loved the cover art as well, this was amazing! Good job!!
Thank you so much!! The art is by Meagan Meli (www.meaganmeli.com/), she has a lot of great stuff.
I always enjoy a solo piano. A very effective piece.
Thank you!
This is such a nice piece. The somber piano really brings the deep emotions out. Really nice work :)
Thank you!!
This track really put me in the shoes of someone going through great grief. The piano's sound instantly gave me a deep, sinking, longing feeling and the ending left me feeling empty as if I had truly lost. Also, the art is really good, both cover and piano roll! Marvelous piece!
Thank you, glad the emotions came across well!
Very nice track, very simple arrangement but it works really well !
The whole track flows quite nicely and the palindrome-part isn't distracting (maybe it has something to do with the tempo shifts which blurs the lines a little bit, but the composition is pretty solid anyway to work well in both direction).
Great job !
Thank you, I'm glad to hear that the reverse side sounds good!
Listening to this felt like I was in my 50's reading a book in my study listening to this while the wood crackles in the fireplace. It's really good!
I love the imagery, thank you!!
Very nice "crab canon"! :D
There is definitely some composition technique here. I particularly enjoy the choice of the piano, which reminds me of these introspective, dark nineteenth century pieces (I have the name Liszt in mind). As others have mentioned, using a virtual instrument with a greater dynamic range and expressivity would clearly make the piece even better. Well done!
I could never compare to crab canon!! But thank you! I think it's growing more and more apparent that my production skills need more work than my composition skills. I mentioned in another comment but you're totally right, listening back I need more overarching volume change throughout.
I feel it really encapsulates the essence of fighting grief. There's a motif where the notes were played repeatedly, then the same notes but played in reverse, i feel that part catches the feeling of confusion and denial of losing someone. The use of (what sounded like to me) diminished and augmented chords really sells the "What do i do now?" feeling after losing someone. The tempo slowing down and going fast again i think also describes how time feels when you're dealing with grief. Time feels like it's slowing down and suddenly it catches up to us 2x the speed. Very well made <3
Thank you so much!! I'm glad that that came across well, I love using dissonance but I'm always afraid of overdoing it.
I really enjoyed this, excellent use of piano
Thank you! Wanted to keep it to one instrument due to how little time I had lol.
The toying of the tempo is a really great touch and something I want to get better at myself!
I don't know what program you were using but I think it could sound even better if the piano had more varied velocities. Sometimes when the piano gets quiet it still feels like it's being played kind of hard instead of softly. IDK if the piano you were using is able to do that but I think it would benefit the piece a lot!
Thank you! And the velocities thing is something I'm kicking myself over lol. I did change around note velocities at a more fine-grain level but listening back it definitely needs some overarching volume changes.
I'm a sucker for piano, so hearing a solo piano track really tugs at my heart strings. Enjoyed the vibes, gives some Chopin nocturne energy.
Always loved nocturnes so I'm glad to hear it!!
Sometimes the simplicity of just one instrument is just enough to create something magical. Very well played and executed. This is just some nitpicking, but I do belive a better pianosound would benefit this song. But that shouldn't be a critic of this song at all. I'm at awe.
Thank you so much! I'll admit, I'm still new to music production so I get overwhelmed by the selection of VSTs lol (I actually ended up downloading a bitcoin mining malware trying to get a different piano plugin ._.) but in the future I think it would definitely be prudent to play around with that more and listen to the whole thing using different plugins.
If I could give some advice, Pianobook might be a great site to look for some nice samples and also without the hassle of some malware. Although you might need a payed version von Kontakt for some of the Sampels there. But most of them are free and sound pretty decend.
