A lil Dnb boss theme for an imaginary Witch Metroidvania/ BossRush Game. This theme centres around the element of time, playing around with reversed elements, and fully being palindromic (reversible). Made using FL studio (for the first time lmao) and heavily inspired by the OST of Ultrakill. Cover Art by Ghost Shark.
The story of this imaginary game follows a young witch, Anna, along with her familiars on a quest to defeat Dr. Jule, a mad scientist looking to harvest all the world's spirits for their magic so he can replace it in favor of electricity, facing many obstacles along the way.
This particular track finds Anna facing up against Reinier Neven, a colleague of Dr. Jule who was gifted a device that allows him to freely manipulate time. Throughout the track, Reinier's voice can be heard taunting Anna as he uses his device to change the flow of time. Despite Reinier's best efforts, Anna begins to gain the upper hand and once he's at the crux of defeat, he decides to reverse the flow of time back to the beginning of the battle, making the track into a palindrome.
Difficulty
Make a piece that has the same musical notes both forwards and backwards but doesn’t have to be an identical recording.

Oh yeah, this is great. I can hear the Ultrakill influences with the drums, the same text to speech, and the organ in the background playing the chords, but at the same time you gave it a really unique twist with the theremin sound, and it's more melodic than the Ultrakill ost in a good way
Thank you so much! Truth be told, I didn't even mean for the TTS to sound the same as Ultrakill's as I was more inspired by SMT Noctourne's OST for that lmao. Really good coincidence none the less.
Happy coincidence!
Theremin and guitar is SUCH a good combination, from the opening notes I was hooked! Super impressive for your first time with FL Studio. I think the reversed sounds unfortunately detract from the strength of the first half of the song, which I think is one of my favorites I've heard in the jam and surprisingly underrated!
Thank you so much for the high praise! I love the vibes that a good theremin accompanied with guitar can provide. Yeah, if I were to tweak the song, I would definitely make that second-half match the first a little better without detracting like it does now.
Spooky Month!! Greath take on the promt creating a song and a story araund it (i love that you called the 2 main caracters palindromes ;] ). Greath job and greath compositon!
Thank you! I like to be a bit cheeky when naming characters lol.
Thank you! I like to be a bit cheeky when naming characters lol.
Really appreciated the fast pace! also the spooky vibes gave it a very comforting ring imo, nostalgic even
good job good jobbbb :D
Thank you Thank youuu! I love a deep, hallowing ring in a song so I decided to try to make something that had that vibe at least a little.
The synth you used reminded me a lot of the instrument they use in a late episode of Regular show lol. It plays in the song David Vs Gary and its pretty great.
Spooky boss type track. I enjoy the theming! Well done on the instrumentation as well!
Thank you!
Kind of surprising, that this is one of the first songs to have a Halloween-ish vibe, while the jam is in October. Very interesting approach and cool change up through the second half. Also work very well with your descruption. Nicely done!
I love spooky month! Thank you for the kind words!
I can totally imagine this in a witchy Metroidvania or BossRush game. It's impressive that you pulled this off in FL Studio for the first time. Great job!
Thank you so much!
I really liked the guitar at the start it had a partially Spanish sounding flair to it that set the boss theme up really well before the tempo kicked in to back it up. I liked the melodies throughout but I did feel that in the reversed half it did lose some of the nice tonality and punchy drum rhythm that you set up in the first half. I did think it was mixed nicely though and the context you added really helped to imagine the scene. nice work!
Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! Listening back, I definitely see what you mean by the punchiness dropping off a bit in the second half, I prolly could have placed the reverse in another, slightly calmer, spot to help with that. Also, it's a pleasant surprise to see that you enjoyed the mix since it was, like, my second time mixing anything lol.
I love the theremin melody.
Thank you :)
Totally got the boss fight vibe from this! Really nice inclusion of the reverse towards the end as well. Great stuff :)
Thank you for the kind words!
I loved the inclusion of the vocal elements! Definitely feels like a boss rush theme. Did you do the art yourself??
Thank you! The vocal elements were definitely one of my favorite ideas to realize during production. On the art, I actually had a personal friend do it for me and I just love how it came out.
