Description
Soundtrack for a colourful, cartoony SEGA Megadrive platformer. Narrative and level descriptions available on main page and YouTube link.
Message from the artist:
Can you capture the five fruits in time to save Ruki the Chef?
Theme
a journey to remember.
How does it fit the theme?
The game involves a mind-boggling speed quest across different locations and climates - desert, mountain, beach etc., and the soundtrack is designed to reflect those different atmospheres as well as the game's increasing difficulty.

Your video presentation is really nice! Happy to hear someone else's lava level track since of my three biome tracks that one was the hardest for me. Yours was very strong - but all of your pieces are. Snow Cherry definitely has me the most pumped. I also want to try this software now, it looks different and interesting.
Thanks! Yeah, Deflemask is really really fun to use. It has loads of different console chips to play with. It's a little tricky at first if you're accustomed to a more user-friendly DAW, but once you get the hang it really starts to open up.
Amazing groove and bass. Snow Cherry is my fav.
Love it!
Many thanks!
Nice work on loopability! And cool retro choice of samples.
Cheers!
The idea of presentation on Youtube is very pleasant. I can hardly understand how such software works, but there is no doubt that the result is proof of a great mastery of this compositional tool. The 16-bit style of the selected synths brings a particularly pleasant color. An OST made up of short trips to different places with very varied atmospheres. Beautiful modulating chords which accentuate the interest, and very well constructed dynamic melodies. A natural sense for orchestral effects (ruptures, syncopations, counterpoint melodies, ...), the whole remaining very united and remarkably rich. The musical elements respond to each other, overlap, all on typical bass riffs: it is particularly successful, teeming with details in all directions. 14 minutes went by without me seeing the time passing. Excellent.
Wow. Your thoughtful words are really appreciated, thank you Yazorius. The one thing I would say is, though I am flattered by your perception of my "great mastery" of Deflemask, I am really a total beginner! I picked it up a couple of weeks ago and used this OST Jam as a kind of occasion to force myself to learn to use it. There's a LOT more that can be done with it, and I look forward to improving! But thank you so much for your detailed and careful review of my work, it means a lot to me.
I love your sound choices!! So on point for this challenge. I could totally hear this over a very modern game and a total 90's title. Really nice! And the narrative is absolutely delightful, by the way. So many extra points for all the cleverness you put in there.
Thank you!
love that 16 bit sound... fits really well with the concept
16 bit and 8 bit too! Thanks!
This was awesome! I was grooving to each track while I listened to it. I really like how cohesive everything is, while still giving a different vibe to each world in the game
Thanks very much
Love that you went for an under-appreciated system and sound. Fits perfectly.
Thanks!
Good music and also I like your "presentation" on YouTube! Music reminds me of old Atari games :) Good job!
Thanks for checking out the vid!
I love the fact that you had a specific vision in mind and executed it so well! The entire narrative you've created for the game sounds really cool- and I can totally see how your music relates!
Thanks! I'm glad I was able to communicate my vision with words and music :)
very nice. love the fact you have an intro to the game and sounds for levels in the game.
Thanks! I actually made the intro music by stringing together five themes from the level songs, though I doubt anyone would notice :)
This is incredible!!! The musical content is so fun and well thought!
The chiptune synths are a bit harsh on the ear, but i don't think thats much of a problem.
Great stuff!
Thank you! Yeah, chiptones can be a little abrasive, oh well!
Great soundtrack, I could picture the game in my head as I was listening. All the tracks really fit together as well, it was a nice listen
Thanks! I'm glad my words make up for my total lack of graphics skills!
SEGA Megadrive! YES, I love the tasty FM sounds you get from the soundchip (seconding the love for the Snow Cherry bass, damn). This was a great listen!
Thank you! Yes, the YM2612 and its little brother the non-FM SN76489 are really fun to program!
The bass in Snow Cherry melted my face off. Enough said. Awesome album.
Thanks!
