Description
'The Missing Mountain' is an imaginary rougelike isometric action game in which the player is tasked with journeying through a mysterious forest to where there used to be two mountains, but now there is only one.
The music and tone of the game was inspired by the soundtracks to games such as Hyper Light Drifter, Hollow Knight and Breath of the Wild, as well as the sounds of artists like Lena Raine, Disasterpeace, Ben Prunty, Akira Yamaoka and Ryuchi Sakamoto.
'Opening Titles' is fairly self-explanatory, I imagined this music scoring an introductory cutscene in which we see the two mountains, one disappears, and the player travelling to the mountain.
'Main Menu/Safe Location' was intended as sort of 'base camp' music, playing when the player is in a small village buying supplies and upgrades before heading into the woods for the mountain.
'Forest Road' is the main piece of soundtrack, and plays when the player is traversing through the deep woods surrounding the mountains. The intention was that the track build the further into the woods the player travels as an adaptive soundtrack.
'The Legend Of Two Mountains' covers a cutscene in which the story and history of the two mountains is revealed, as well as learning of the importance of the player's quest.
'Mountain Trail' is a sort of 'final level' piece, as the player traverses the remaining mountain to try and bring back its partner. This is where my thinking about the game started to get a bit foggy as I'm unsure where the story goes from here (I'm not really a game designer!). Similar to 'Forest Road', this piece is intended to build the higher the player climbs.
'End Cutscene/Credits' covers the ending of the game, as the mountain reappears and the player returns, changed, ending on a shot of the two mountains, reunited once again.
Message from the artist:
A dark, ambient score for an action roguelike inspired by Hyper Light Drifter, Hollow Knight and Breath Of The Wild about setting out to find a disappearing mountain.
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
I really liked the image of two mountains, and I quickly had this idea about one of them suddenly disappearing, and going on a journey to get it back. I tried to build the score around the feeling of something profound being missing, and leaving a large hole in the world, both literally and metaphorically, and going on a journey you're not sure you'll return from.
