  • Neat game, I little befuddled by getting the answers to the mental health questions incorrect, as the answers to these types of problems tend to vary from person to person, so I died several times despite thinking I was typing the correct answer. The shop is a cool progression mechanic to sort of shake up the main mechanic.

Did you include your Game Design Document in your downloadable files?
Yes

Tell us about your game!
A great sadness plague has befallen the people of the Sadlands.
Save them by encouraging them with positivity! Help yourself and others by practicing positive reinforcement and watch the positivity spread throughout the fauna and flora of the Sadlands.

Be on the lookout though, there are beings feeding on the sadness, they will try to prevent you from reaching your goal. Arm yourself in the shop and face them head on!

Sadlands is a typing game centered around positivity,
positive reinforcement and keeping those skilled fingies nice and toasty. You will see the positivity spread across the Sadlands. Answer questions in rapid succession and defeat the end boss by defeating it, or maybe not. Hmmm...

Controls:

Extra Notes
I am a solo dev and this is the first time I finished a game. Everything you see, hear or type is made by me from the start of the Pirate Software Game Jam 14. It has taught me a lot about game development, but most of all it has taught me something about myself....

The submition was close to deadline since I decided to start working on a game on Jan 18th.

I F#@%ING LOVE GAME DEVELOPMENT!!!!1!11 AND I MADE SOME MUSIC like what the hell? ME?

Loved it! Concept was interesting and the difficulty ramped up quickly. Music was pretty good for your first attempt

I had trouble with the browser version. Tried Brave and it crashed, and Safari caused it to reload due to memory issues. May be a godot - web issue but something to check for if you develop the game further.

Developer

Glad you liked it! yeah, I really did not compress sound files enough, hence the file sizes. I will optimize it/re-do it better for the next iteration. Thanks for the tips! Have a great one.

hey man! finally got to play your game and experience the music in the game! Interesting concept! Really positive. Makes me happy. Good job with it. Did you build the models in blender? Is this actually 3d?

Developer

Everything is made from scratch, was not that hard. It is low quality, I know that and the mechanics have to be polished a lot. Thanks for playing, means a lot, honestly!

I could not get the browser version to work. Am I missing something? I would love to give this another go but I don't understand what I'm doing wrong ^_^

Developer

Hmm. that is very curious, I have tested on both Firefox and 2 seperate chrome based browsers. It may take some time to load. I forgot to compress my music thinking the engine would do it. What do you see when you load the game? (you can put pictures in here as well).

It won't let me post the screenshot for some reason. I got to the username entry and pressed enter. It didn't seem to do anything.

Developer

Have you tried pressing the add image button above the comment field? For some reason you can't just paste pics lol, at least for me.

Developer

There is no username field, something is going wrong. What system are you on?

I figured it out. I didn't realize I had to type "play game" I'm just dumb and this is SOO fun!!!! Probably the best submission I've played today! great job

Developer

Have you gotten to the boss fight? Thanks for the great feedback!

Submitted

No but I'm trying!

Developer(+1)

I must admit it is tricky, I tried my best to balance it. Make sure to use the shop items!

I got to the boss fight and "ungrateful" almost took me out on my last heart. It was a close call and made the fight more intense!

Developer

I am actually glad to hear that believe it or not, a very stressful moment for you, a successful one for me. I made it difficult enough. Were you equipped in the shop? Hearty meal restores a heart.

Congrats on getting your game submitted. I find it pretty challenging. It's one thing to type fast, it's another to have to make a decision about somebody's well being before having to type. Interesting idea, I dig it. I also dig the music! I sort of gave up making music on my project. I just didn't have much time and I've never done it before. Congrats again!

Developer

Thank you so much for the nice comment! I love your game too. I tried to balance it as best I could, both the time and the answer pairs. It is pretty difficult to make answers not repeat or ambiguous to confuse the player  I was thinking of using AI to generate it on the spot but that is against the rules and I wanted it to have more of a personal touch. Thanks again. I am sure you will do very well in this Jam. ✌️😊
