  • I'm a sucker for simplicity. The controls were simple to follow, the play style was a nice touch - in terms of "hide and seek" and the concept was easy enough to comprehend as it tied back to the theme in my opinion. The music was very catchy, by the way

Did you include your Game Design Document in your downloadable files?
Yes

Tell us about your game!
Negativity has turned the villagers into Meansters. Help Violet find the Meansters and turn them back into people with hugs.

This is a hide-and-seek game. The idea for this game came from my 7-year-old, so it has a very low difficulty level. I really just wanted her to like the game. I hope you find the characters and story amusing.

Did you remember to include your Game Design Document?
Yes

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes

Extra Notes
This is my first time participating in a game jam and first time building a game. I've learned a lot and my daughter loves the game, so I already won.

I am appreciative of the culture that PirateSoftware has fostered. This culture of positivity and go create things (doesn't have to be good) has been incredibly encouraging. Thank you!

Gonna have frikkin nightmares about those Meansters tonight for sure.

Really fun, simple gameplay loop. Great work for your first-ever game! Very chill, low-stakes game, which is sometimes exactly what you need.

The only thing I did not enjoy was listening to The Itsy Bitsy Spider on repeat. It's fire, but after the 10th loop, my legs are tired from dancing. I would recommend adding in some additional tunes to groove to while you play.

I think that it could benefit from some sort of Meanster locator too, either a minimap or compass, but get it if you consciously choose to not include those.

Overall, very impressive work!

Thanks for checking out the game, I am glad you enjoyed it! Also, I am super appreciate of your feedback! I definitely want to add variety to the music. I had not considered a minimap or compass but I am intrigued by the idea. I will certainly think on it. Thanks again!

Daww this was a super cute entry!  I loved the cute pixel art graphics.  Gave me super cutesy chill game vibes, also from a gameplay perspective thanks for making the main character have a decent walk speed for the size of the world haha.

Developer

Thanks so much for checking it out, I am glad you enjoyed the game! Also, I appreciate your feedback on the walking speed as it was a concern, thank you!

Playing this game calmed me down when I was feeling a little agitated. I particularly liked the humorous dialogue at the start and the music changing over time. Spreading joy is a great interpretation of the theme!

Developer

The theme and idea behind this game is lovely and the art and character animations are great.

I look forward to seeing what you and your daughter can come up with next for it.

Absolutely adorable! Your motivation for making the game is really precious and you are a great parent!

I really enjoyed the dialogue writing at the beginning, it made me smile. The ending scene was wonderful as well, great way to finish the game. Including the time was a great idea!

In terms of gameplay and difficulty you perfectly hit your target audience.

Well done!

Thanks so much for checking it out! We had a lot of fun brainstorming the dialogue.

I really enjoyed this game. I hope you will continue to update this game after the jam! I could see myself playing this game for some time if it had more to digest. Really well built and very understandable to just dive in and play. My 6 year old gave input on our game as well. Its really fun to collaberate with them ^_^. Good job!
