Darkness and Duckies is an isometric RTS/Factory building game where you play as an alchemist who has a horrible addiction to collecting rubber duckies. His patience grows thinner with every second so act fast to collect as many as you can, or else. Build factories and mines to collect resources, upgrade the skill tree to unlock upgrades, battle villages to steal all of their precious ducks, and more in this epic video game!

Probably the best tutorial in any game jam game. Crazy stuff for a game jam. It does get a bit repetitive, but it's only normal for there to be limited content in a game jam game. The only thing that bothers me is that the theme 'darkness and duckies' is just slapped on there. Like why are we collection duckies when the gameplay feels like factorio/clash of clans.
Besides that it's a really great game, like crazy stuff!
Thanks for playing. The idea was to have an item that the alchemist was addicted to and we just chose rubber ducks because it is kinda funny and so the title of the game could have alliteration
I don't mind something random the rubber duckies, but the theme should be visible in the rest of the game. Like rubber duckies on your factory building, the villagers that are defending are replaced by ducks, squeaky noises as sound effects for buleint? Idk I'm thinking out loud lmao
This is super impressive for a game jam! Tons of content packed in here. I didn't have any technical issues, the only issues I have are solved by me getting gud (it's hard). But, solid gameplay loop and I'm excited to play more.
Thanks for playing!
Ducks! Fun game.
Awesome music!
Really cool game! Feels like there is a lot of content for a game jam game! I did have some problems clicking on the UI in browser (even after f11)., but it was still playable. I quite liked the pixel art as well, really great work overall!
Thanks for playing! yea apparently game maker does not support webgl very well so there are just random issues like the button thing you mentioned sometimes. Those kinds of things dont happen on the downloadable version
Thanks for playing!
I've been playing this game for hours. its so good.
thats awesome!!! Glad you like it
I played for like 8 hours lol. I made it to 1.6mil out of 2mil quota. after the 8 tower slots fill up at max speed its kinda just a waiting game plus getting to the town hall building was impossible. So many bomb towers. I was getting enough duckies from just the small buildings and anvil farming. I would just attack like 4 times per quota and get all the duckies I needed. I was like 3 quotas ahead at some point. There was one pathing bug. If units are too close to the border they just stand there. Bases also seem to get a little too big. There is barely a corner to spawn your units from. I think one simple addition of like palletizing or packaging your items to reduce the need for as fast of belts or reaching the towers input limit. Either that or a way to gain more input locations. maybe like an expensive building that can receive goods just like the tower. This is such an amazing mix of rts and factory automation. I love factorio and I love this game. I hope you guys are thinking about continuing this onto steam!
wow thats some dedication! Tbh I did not think it was possible to get that far. We only had one day to balance and playtest everything so I didn’t get nearly as far as you due to lack of time, so I guess I wasn’t able to balance adjust the super late game alot. A bunch of people have suggested the second tower idea and I do like the idea alot so if we continue development I will probably add something like it. And again, thanks so much for playing and im really happy you like the game so much
holy cow! the farthest we could get was a final score of 8481. we never got that far in our testing of it so we didn't really know what to expect when people got that far, honestly i thought no one would ever make it that far. thank you for the feedback, we will defiantly take it into consideration when/if we decide to update the game. if you remember your final score at the end you should let me know so i can update the high score on the itch page. thank you for playing, glad you liked it. :D
Hey you seemed like you enjoyed our game alot so I just wanted to let you know we just updated it and fixed several of the issues you told us about! The biggest change we made was making the quota timer decrease during the end game. I'm hoping this will make the game more challenging and fun but idk, i'd be interested to hear your feedback
Pretty cool RTS/Factory game! :D Love the duck theme, and the epic background music!
thanks for playing! :D
This game made me feel like mighty Saruman, except I gave my epic speeches to my rubber duckies! 10/10 would quack again
Thanks for playing!
Very nice and way too addictive game. I don't even know how much time I have spent trying to reach the 808 ducks quota... The only thing that I would add is a possibility to upgrade/make the tower bigger, as after some time, it's just not possible to get the goods there fast enough. Except for that, it is a great experience and I would gladly follow it's development in the future.
Thanks for playing, I added a lot of conveyor speed upgrades in the skill tree that help the resources move alot faster, hope that helps!
