  • I grabbed your game as soon as I saw it. Duck Hunt, one of my faves and a perfect fit for the theme of this game jam. When you said in your description, "some quirks" I did not expect the gun not to shoot and you to then...hurl your dismembered arm which then regenerates and goes again?! LOL wild. Quite a few quirks along the way that make it quite a creative interpretation of the first game. I liked the old TV going bad feel of the lines across the screen. It added to the overall twisted nature of this game. The sound design and music was good though a tad loud/abrasive. Volume sliders would help with this. It was a bit too difficult for me to get very far into the game. A missed shot affecting my health was a bit too rough. The ducks coming in slightly slower waves would help as well. Adding a bit of lore at the beginning would be cool. Something like, "We got an old copy of duck hunt! It's a bit twisted but maybe it'll still work." And then to explain the gameplay, "Just shoot the ducks. Easy!" And then you find that it's twisted and not as easy as you recall. It feels like the TV or the game have been possessed in comparison to the original game and that's so cool. I want that emphasized a bit more in an introduction of some kind. Great submission for the game jam! Good game design doc. This was really creative and well done. Thank you!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Duck Hunt, but with some quirks. Use your mouse to aim, left click to shoot and get as many points as you want!

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The game fits the theme by having the player take control of a hunter that's hunting ducks. Not only is he a weapon against the ducks on his own, but he does become a weapon himself in the literal sense as well.

The game has a really simple premise, of just hunting ducks. But I really love the twists you added to the game! The art and music are amazing, the sound effects and death animations also add a lot to the game. Though it would be appreciated if there was a setting to turn down or up the music and sound effects.

I love the transitions in both the music and the game, to become more “trippy” and crazy as the game went on, the music also became way more intense which was great! I really liked how you change the initial gun into a hand that can literally fly out, to a leg, then feet, or tentacles etc. They are really amazing ideas and add so much depth and fun into such a simple game!

The screen animations like the flickering, and the duck death animation are so well done.

My only issue was the difficulty of the game. I managed to make it to 35k points, and the game didn’t really seem to be getting harder. There was also no punishment in simply letting the ducks go. It seemed weird to me that you lose the game missing a shot, rather than letting a duck go. A personal opinion, but I feel changing the 3 shots so that you have to reload after 3 bullets, and changing it such that if the duck “escapes”, you lose a life, would be a better gameplay mechanic.

The game has a lot of work done into making the animations, transitions as well as the music fit the game. Which is amazing to see in a short game jam, though I would have liked more gameplay content, the work and effort done into making the game feel smooth more than covers up the lack of content. Amazing job!

Fun game! I loved how intense the screen would get as the game progressed. Something that I noticed though was that there was no punishment for not shooting the ducks, and that the game didn't really get harder after 20k points. I ended up just purposefully missing a shot when I felt done. I think having the game get harder would make it more engaging after a certain point. Overall, I did enjoy the core gameplay, and the animations of the screen changing and ducks getting shot at along with the sound effects were great!

Wow, that's an amazing score! You're going on the leaderboards!

You're absolutely right about the difficulty. There's three things we plan on implementing for the post jam update:

- Ducks will progressively spawn faster and flying ducks can move faster

- Missing a duck makes you lose a life

- An actual enemy duck

The last one is a bit of an incognito, but we're almost done with the other two. We hope to make the game feel harder, but not unfair in the start. Thank you very much for playing our game and leaving such a thoughtful comment, it truly means a lot to us!

Those sound like great changes! I like everything else about the game, but making the game progressively get harder is definitely going to enhance the experience.

I loved the art and atmosphere of the game, I got myself a solid 21500 points. Even had me thinking about playing Duck Hunt on the NES with my sister when I was a kid so you nailed capturing the essence of Duck Hunt. Very cool game and I'm surprised there were so many weapons lol

Oh, that's a very good score! It puts your name in the leaderboards, hunter!

Indeed, the arsenal of a dunt hucker must always be varied, for they should be prepared to face any situation. After all, dunt hucking can be an activity full of peril...

It's really heartwarming to know it gave you some sense of nostalgia, though. I'm very happy to know you enjoyed it (and to anyone who hasn't played Mythikal's game, what are you waiting for? It's quite heartwarming. Give it a shot😉).

Thank you so much for playing and leaving this comment. It means a lot to us!

I remember when I used to play duck hunt in my childhood! Glad to see it's spirit is still alive (deranged and possessed, but alive). This little and game is as simple as it can get, but then again so was its spiritual predecessor, and I really love it. I don't know why the team decided to make it hilariously deranged, but it adds a layer of charm and personality that really makes the whole thing even better. The hitboxes are nice, the art is amazing, the playability is addicting and the leaderbord will drive me nuts. So freaking good.

Developer

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! When the update comes out, I think the leaderboards will be a lot more fun to go for (but quite harder to get high scores, I think...)

Dunt hucking has its fair share of derangedness. But we don't talk about that with our hunters. :)

Thank you for playing and leaving such a thoughtful comment. It truly means so much to us!

A fun little fever dream. I'm sure you're already aware of this, but it does get repetative with no difficulty scaling, so I just stopped playing eventually.

Developer

Indeed, the difficulty scaling isn't quite good enough yet. We felt a bit hesitant on the possibility of making it too hard, but ended up falling into the other side. We got changes planned to remedy that, though!

I hope you managed to get some enjoyment out of it, though. Thank you so much for playing the game, and especially for you feedback! It's really appreciated!
