What style of retro game were you going for? (Year/Era/Console/etc)
I can't define exactly. Its start as a pseudo Gameboy with a even low resolution. With SFX based on Nokia Phones.

You weren't kidding when you said it was short :D
Nice artwork, the cutscenes were very nicely done in such a small resolution!
I did find a bug where I fell into the spikes and then the player was trapped under the spikes.

Thanks for the complements.

Haha to be honest,  I could make it "larger", but with the limitations of Construct I wouldnt be able to make the levels much more interesting, to not mention the fact the character blending with background would become a bigger problem .

Anyway, its a Jam game, so I take as priority to show a project more "complete" as I could in the way people would 100% finish it. I mean, its 30 games to play/test haha

I feel like this one is hard to rate. Full disclosure, I've never played a Castlevania game. But I can really appreciate the minimalist take on the series. And the sounds remind me of those handheld LCD games that I grew up with. Generally really well done!

I am pretty impressed that with the severe limitations you imposed on yourself you were still able to create something that kinda feels like Castlevania! It controls well, and the art is good given the restrictions. The audio is pretty tough on the ears, though it certainly brings Nokia phones to mind as you said.

Overall, not bad work.

Thank you ;)

This was cool! you planning to do something for the Lowres Jam?

Nice animations and I liked the beepy phone sounds.  You did well overall with those self imposed limitations.

Developer

thank you, im glad you like it.

No plans for lowrez, but the challenge is very interesting to me haha

The audio needs serious work, also the graphics have potential to look cool, but everything looks so messy and idk where enemies are sometimes, I even found it hard to find my own character at first. The controls are good tho, and it does feel like a lost Nokia Castlevania game that never saw the light of day.

yeah i got your point. The combination of this palette + the very low resolution really wasnt so good.

In the 8x8 sprites I didnt find a way to make it clear and the colors ends by blend too much in the background. Even thought about change the palette for a NES based one but it would take too long to change everything.

Basically the same for sounds, also, I got a little amazed by how the Rusted Studio manage to bring this cool music with such Castlevania-vibes XD

When I heard the first time I thought "cant be other" hahaha

Thanks for playing buddy, glad you like it ;)

Cool game! My only problem is audio. It sounds too synthetic in a bad way.

Developer

Haha, Its composed only by bips, based on old phones. Thanks for playing my game buddy (y) glad you like it
