Title
Funky Pipes
Description
The samples inspired me to make funk music. Why was that? I have no idea.
Amen Break: I used it as is (at 110 bpm) for the intro. I then chopped it to use the pieces to complete the beat. When the Amen Break returns, the order of the sample pieces is the same, but each sample is shorter to give the sound more impact. I also added two drumset on top for a wider, funkier sound.
Metal Pipe: It's all over the track. It serves as a transition between parts. There are two big impact sounds in this sample, and their spacing corresponds roughly to 110 bmp. Which was perfect for my music. I also chopped it to use as a rhythmic base in the sections where the tempo is halved (the quieter moments).
Meow Synth: Big problem, yet it worked for several days. So I decided to remake one in my own style. It's not perfect, but it does the job. I didn't use the soundfont to get a more versatile sound.

Good mix and composition. Also makes good use of the challenge. This will probably end up being my favorite submission of the jam. Great work!
I'm glad you like it. I had a lot of fun composing and trying to make these stupid sounds!
Always love your mixing & compositions Selkoine, you're the one!
Only thing that bothered me (Just a smidge, and in my composition too) is that the reverb in the pipe sample kinda breaks the general room feeling of the track and doesn't feel like it fits.
The video's very cool too!
Thanks, I feel I've made a lot of progress in mixing thanks to all these jams.
As for the metal pipe reverb, I can't help it. It's just the sound. Once the sound has a reverb, it's impossible to reverse-process it. Maybe we'll be able to do it with AIs soon.
You can infact remove reverb, although the options available are kinda expensive from what I know
I use Waves' Clarity DeReverb for t, it's supposed to be for vocals but I found it works pretty good for transient samples as well!
Wow, I didn't know that! I just listened to some demos, it sounds like it would work. And it's on sale for $40 right now ๐ค
Great, I also had the idea to use the pipe sounds as transitions. You processed them really effectively though and I think it adds to the character.
Thanks, that's nice. It's clearly not easy to integrate such a remarkable sound without screwing up the rest of the music.
The combination of the like synth piano thing and the strings really reminded me of the song Hair Scare from PaRappa the Rapper 2
I played PaRappa 1, but didn't know about 2. I've just listened to it, and it's true that there's a bit of the same vibe, but there's a lot less "snip snip" in my music.
That vibrato on the meowsynth! Very tasty, it makes the melodies so fun!
Great song from A to Z. That little slow part in the middle was a welcoming change of pace and worked very well to bring the final part to the highest!
You didn't over used the amen break like I did so great job on that!
I'd day the metal pipe sfx sometime feels out of place but with a sound so intricate and weird it's hard to make it blend with the rest x)
But other than that banger song, nice job!
Thank you very much! It's great to see you in this jam, I'll go and listen to your composition.
For the metal pipe sfx, it was complicated, but I pitched it to bring it into line with my song and tried to get it as close as possible to the tempo. It's the best I could do ๐
