Cats through chiptune space
Description
I put down an initial draft for the first half of this pretty fast, then didn't have any ideas for it until the last few days.
I ended up extending it, then writing this jubilant final section with a key change I thought was awesome, at first, then realized I couldn't integrate it into the song at all. So I spent the last hour before the jam closed trying to round out the song without overdoing it.
Having a drum loop as flexible as the amen break really helped here, I used a few of the iterations of it from the linked download. Meowsynth worked well as a lead, but I struggled to integrate the pipe drops a lot. Curious to hear what I think of this song a few days from now with fresh ears... Let me know what you all think
Plugins used
Apart from Meowsynth I used the FL synth Kepler for the bass and arp

I particularly like the second part (from 0'41"). By the way, you've taken the liberty of making a rather abrupt change at this point, which nevertheless comes across superbly. It sounds very natural to the ear. It's great because they're very different.
Thanks, appreciate it
This is really creative and incorporates the challenge well. It's also surprisingly well mixed for how chaotic the composition is. I would've preferred a little more consistency to make the music feel more cohesive, but I can totally see why you chose this direction instead.
I heard this and saw the comments and was immediately like "oh no, was there a specific sound I was supposed to use for the metal pipe??" haha. I like the reversed sample though.
The amen break was a really nice compliment to the rest of the track, and I liked the meowsynth implementation and how it works with the artwork haha. I think it does get a little chaotic around :32 or so. The ending I don't mind really, and in fact that last resolving "meow" gave me a laugh, haha. Great job!
Only things that were a bit weird for me were the ubrupt ending & I think some parts / samples are out of key?
Not sure if intentional but I didn't fancy it much...
Oh and I also agree with TheSnowly on the pipe, maybe some editing to make it fit into the song's atmoshpere a bit would make it better!
Other than that - pretty neat composition, keep on creating!
Yeah I feel like the song needed another bar to finish, it feels abrupt. Thanks
I also reversed the metal pipe sfx in my song! I had never really used sampler before so figuring out how to make the pipe sfx and amen break do what I wanted was a bit of a learning curve.
I like that the song never come back to any melodies or anything played before, it's always changing! and that chaos works very well! Though the metal pipe sfx is a bit too loud and feel out of place, it's great that you tried to Experiment a bit with tweaking the sound.
Also the world need more music with the hit sfx so kudos to you!
Nice job!
Thanks!
