Carnival Games: There are 3 relatively simplistic "games" to play to spend tickets.

Loved the game and the atmosphere. Found myself saying "Dammit Molly" once or twice, but that's how kids are. Also didn't expect the Teddy-Devin relationship, but we love to see it
Haha, yeah- children (particularly younger siblings) tend to invoke that kind of reaction! Also, I'm glad their relationship was acknowledged by some- it was a late decision addition, but I like the feel of it in the midst of the tense/scary atmosphere :> Thank you sm for playing!
I managed to get 4 endings and here's my review:
I really enjoyed this game! The story (and the whole experience) kinda felt like a mix between a classic creepypasta and a story by R. L. Stine, something I really liked. It also reminded me of some 80's horror films that take place in circus/carnival settings (specially the flow of events, the introduction of the characters, etc).
The carnival was really well done, it really felt like a carnival and the minigames, while completely random, were still enjoyable (I spent all my tickets trying to score 4 points).
The graphics were really good and I really like your sprites and art style, which reminds me of some the classic Rpg Maker Horror games such as the strange men series (specifically The Sandman) and a bit of Misao.
The setting was really well done and the part where you control Molly was pretty unsettling and had a lot of tension, specially when running from the entities.
Since it's a game made for a jam, the lenght of the game is fitting and totally understandable, but I was really enjoying the story and game, so it was kind of a bummer when the game ended since I wanted to see more of the ghostly carnival.
My main complaint would be the enemies at the end, since they are quite fast and got me a few times, making me reset the game each time, since I didn't want to see the bad ending again. Still, running from them searching for the friends was tense and kind of fun.
Overall, I really enjoyed the game, I think it's a really solid entry and it makes great use of the theme.
Congratulations on your amazing work! I expect to play more of your amazing games!
Wow, thank you for such praise! I'm very honored once again to have you play my little game, haha!
It's super interesting you mention Misao, because that was one of the games I tried to think about while making my entry in the first place! (While not entirely, I just wanted to capture what made games like Misao etc. particularly interesting when it came to an anomalous or ghost-like entity, while still in a relatively modern setting).
I'll admit, I was really strapped for time near the end, and I wish I had more to flesh it out or have it be able to be explored by the player, but I'm ultimately content in the way it fell into place for the jam.
I thought I was ambitious in the minigame(s) in having them be random (one was 1 in 3 chances with RNG, if I recall), but I thought it would be too "on the nose" or easy if I just said what the chances were outright.
The entities were more numerous in the original deployment, but after updating, I've significantly reduced them, so I'm sorry for the high difficulty despite. I appreciate the input though, and it's given me some thoughts about how to go about it differently, should I make another game with a similar mechanic.
Thank you for playing!
NICE GAME :D i quite liked the overall look of the festival and the monster design was quite fun ^^ i thought putting the arrows there to indicate where to go was a smart choice + the objective item was a clever way to do a hint system. Characters were sweet, quite a believable group of kids :3 Keep it up :D
Thank you so much!! :>
Heeey Molly, was that an Undertale reference? :D
Loved the graphics and most of all the writing.
It gave me that 80's kids with bikes vibe, especially the good ending, and made me feel like shit when I got the bad endings - the part in the circus tent was also creepy as fuck, with that labyrinthic layout and the ice-cream cones coming out of the walls.
Kudos, that was really good!
hello! Thank you so much for playing! I'm not sure what you mean by reference, but I wasn't thinking of much for Molly's name besides something cute, haha;
I just wanted to make a visibly on the spectrum child that felt relatable :>
Thank you for your kind words, it all means so much to me! I had a lot of fun adding the little bits that made it more of an eerie, but not completely horrifying experience, I think! I'm glad I was able to make you feel such a strong connections in the endings as well! I rly appreciate your feedback!
Oh I didn't mean her name!
When you meet her in her room, interacting with the glue she's described as being "filled with determination", I thought that was an Undertale reference since it's a common phrase used in the game
Oh, I LOVED that! I got endings 3 and 4 and 4 was totally worth it. I thought the writing was believable and so cute, loved how Molly's character was written SO much. I felt so attached to her and the stakes felt really high. Moved right along, the mini games were cheeky, haha. Loved the atmosphere and music, the style of the sprites were really clean and cute. Definitely a captivating adventure, I played it in mostly one sitting.
*Spoilers*
The only ting I wish was majorly different is just more save points near the end, specifically after you find your friends.
The spooks in the maze were SO effective, literally made me jump, lol. I LOVED the little dudes running away just out of sight, that was so well done and well timed.
I think I accidentally skipped a bit in the middle? Where I somehow just coincidentally went right to the big tent and there was dialogue about a locked storage container I had not seen, but that's a super small thing and i figured out what was being said just from context clues.
Thank you so much for your kind words!! I've since made the game a bit easier in the segment that most seem to have difficulty with;; I think I went a little ham on making it particularly difficult because I'm a bit of a masochist in that way (unintentionally hahaa...)
I was on the fence about save points as well, but I think this makes a good point and is helpful feedback! The middle part you may be referring to could be my lack of making it more obvious to players to inspect / interact with the remaining NPCs to be able to get context, but at the same time, I think I was just assuming players might head straight for the tent anyway, and that being alright. Although, the mention of the shed can maybe help contextually for players who might not know where else to look for their friends in the last part, but that might just be wishful thinking/assumption ;w;
Thank you again for playing!! <3
