I loved the cel-shaded look, and I love seeing people make turn-based battles in Ren'py. I'd love to see you do more with this game/concept!
Hey, I finally got around to playing your game, and i was really impressed by the scope! The characters and setting were rather fleshed out, I loved how it enhanced the tough choices you have to make along the story. On that note, those choices were super compelling and by far the strongest aspect of the game imo! The RPG mechanics were also really interesting, it didn't even occur to me that something like that could be made in renpy!
For a solo gamejam project it's an outstanding work! I think you should work on polishing the visual aspect (bgs and framing of the sprites, though I thought the parallax effect was really good) and you'll be golden. Congrats!
Yeah, my scope knife was a spoon this year. Not sure why I felt so compelled to make this huge thing but it had to be done.
Implementing the RPG mechanic needed so much custom Python code! I learned things about the inner workings of Renpy that no mortal is meant to see!
Thank you so much for your review. I am glad you had fun. And yeah, I absolutely would love to release an extended version with less rushed visual but well... we will see.
Super ambitious entry! The story is very involved & thought-out, with some tough choices right from the get-go, and the worldbuilding has a complexity to it that I didn't expect. That's a tricky needle to thread! The character designs are also charming, and the pre-rendered 3d graphics give the game a unique feel (even if they're a tad blurry here and there). Big congrats on making such a hefty entry as a solo dev - that's no small feat!
Thank you so much!
Reading your review made my day! It means a lot especially coming from someone making so delightful games as you do!
Wow now that i've played this im quite impressed. You have made something very unique to this game jam. Even though it's not as polished as others, it takes a lot of effort to create something like you did. Visually it falls short, the characters seem quite blurry and dont have any real expressions. But you have some great animation work with screen panning and the likes. Then you have a the QTE mechanic and a turn based combat system. It's all very nicely made. I'd say if you can maybe get an artist or 2 and some more time to do touchups, this could be a really great product. Not to mention, the story is also quite nice and very interesting!
Thank you for playing it! I am very glad you liked it!
I definitely hope to work together with artists on future projects. With this one I would have probably been murdered during the jam if I told them that we need like 8 or so full body sprites and endless amounts of backgrounds because... reasons. So I had to stick to myself to get it done. Though the blury sprites will get replaced, it is just a pain because of the action editor and me having to redo all the scenes when I change the resolution.
Gosh, this is such an ambitious ambitious entry, and it's a solo work?! I'm so sorry you ran into issues early on, but now that I've been able to play it, it has the feel of an adventure epic condensed into a jam format--I admire your drive and vision so much, and look forward to what works you will create going forward, as well!
Thank you!
I really want to try your game, its a shame that it doesnt start due to a bug, maybe you can send a message when its working on windows and ill try again?
Please try the latest build.
The problem was that I didn't know about this issue cause I had forgotten to delete my persistent files before testing. So it worked just fine for me.
Awesome, great to hear. Ill give it a go once im home!
idk if this is an insane thing to do, but I went in and took out the problematic code line to make the game playable. I thought it'd be a shame if no one played your game this month since you worked so hard on it. The slow ring wouldn't work, such is the price of adding so many features, but alot of them worked and looked great. like you did really good with the action editor, personally I have trouble with it. (/▽\)
Anyway, I wanted to play this since I remember your games from last year and wanted to see how much better you've gotten. Though, I do miss the charm of the drawn sprites. However, I like the dialogue, it matches the tone very well. Except you use cunt alot, lol. I'm not offended, it was just so silly!
Oh thank you so much for the review!
Yes, this year's release is a total mess. Sounds you played one of the earlier releases. I have to say, I am very sorry! I couldn't update in the first few days and it was maddening. There is actually a whole self-written turn based fighting system underneath all that wasted sooo much time and that I could barely get to work for submission. I tried to do way too much!
I just now pushed another release fixing a lot of stuff and I am now barely at the point where I wanted to be for submission. I hope you might check out the game in a few weeks or so to see how it was actually meant to be.
And yes, I am very fond of heavy swearing. To be fair Claudia is from a lower-born merchant family from fantasy Australia so it kind of makes sense that she would swear a lot but yeah I get that it might sound weird for American audiences where certain words are seen to be much harsher.
I promise next year's entry will receive much more polish. And thank you so much for the review, again! It means a lot to me and I am so happy you remembered my games for last year!
Whoops! I played the one that's on the jam page, I didn't know you had an updated version.
