Pretty good game! Some really nice art and interesting ideas. I encountered some issues and bugs which detracted from the experience a bit, but with some more polish it could be great :)

Developer

Thank you! I wrote all the bugs I encountered on the itch page, but I really should have just pushed through a bit! Thanks for all the tips and for hosting such a great jam!

Your game frustrated me till the point where i found out i had a double jump. I think removing friction would improve it a lot but. I like the idear of using the animal's as interactive platform's. Music and grafic where nice too. Good Job!

Developer

Thank you so much! I agree with the friction idea! thanks for all the tips

Hi! a very nice game with lots of room for improvement.

I completely agree with the comments about colliders and friction which are very important in this case. Beware of the ground detection also since it failed me to the point to need to restart continuedly.

My best recommendation is to learn how to prioritize your tasks. MoSCoW is a good technic for doing this. And also focus in something before trying to add more and more things. For example, Imo it would be better to have one polish level rather than 5 that have tons of bugs.

Please keep the great work!

Developer

Thanks for the tips, will look into it!

With a little work you can make a great game! The whole basis of a great game is there, a few are missing next to it, like being able to restart the current level, I had to quit a few times because I got stuck on my own :)

Yeah, I need to work on that! Not the best at creating UI so I'm lucky I managed to even figure that out! lol

It's very respectable that you were transparent with bugs. As much as we don't want to have them, during those last couple hours in our build there will always be something, so it's better to admit then omit if people are going to play anyway. Moving on, the game is very nice to play. Yes some assets are stitched together, but the dedication to shaders make up for that. The audio for the animals is on the annoying side, mostly because of how loud the sound bytes are and how much they repeat. In Level 2 I didn't know how to get over the house, but then I figured out there was a double jump feature. Level 3 there is no hitbox on the tree, so you can fall off the map if you want to. I get the Spring part from the art, but I didn't really get the "Grow" part of the theme, what exactly was growing? The UI and the sprites you used were very nice and clean, if not some of them blurry (but I've dealt with that before so it's fine). Overall, a decent game, good job!

Developer

Thank you so much. The bugs were a problem, so instead of hiding them, I picked to embrace them. Probably better to do so anyway. The audio for the animals is a bit too much.... should have lowered it a lot. The growth part was supposed to be like the growing world (more and more things happen at each level) and the growth in diffulity of the puzzles. Glad you enjoyed and thanks so much for the tips!

Great game! Good level design it's all really well done. Plus the art is fantastic!

Developer

Thanks so much. Can't take credit for the art, except the key and part of the background.... the worst parts I know. Glad you liked it. Any ideas on how to improve it?

Yeah so I think speeding up the gameplay a little bit (i.e. the movement speed & jump height) would make it feel a lot more satisfying to play. A lot of times with platformers its best to try to avoid slow movement unless its for a distinct purpose. I also noticed that a lot of the walls were kind of "sticky" so like you could jump into them and you'd stay there. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, but if not in Unity you can create a 2D physics material and set "Friction" to 0 and then apply that to any platform colliders and that should solve that.

I also think it would look a little nicer if there weren't the little gaps between the tiles. I've also had that issue in the past but there are a bunch of good resources out there to fix that issue. Unity's tile map system is very powerful!

Other than those few things its honestly a pretty solid game! You included a lot of polish details that a lot of people miss like particle effects while running and jumping that I really appreciate seeing in such a short term jam. Good job you should be proud!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for all the ideas. I wanted to fix the gaps and the colliders, but I didn't have time. Thank you for all the tips! Will use them for next time.

Nice game. Lovedaudio, one of the best on this jam. I had problems at the begining because I didn't know how to jam. I think I would work on Colliders. I think you wereusing polygon colliders. Well they were usually bigger than texture(for example tree or house roof.) I think when making platformer game in unity is giving material to your walls/tilemap collider without friction so you dont get stuck on walls. Anyway good job.

Developer

I used polygon colliders! You caught me. I really do need to fix that. I got so caught up in other stuff and then just thought it would take too long. That was my mistake! Sorry. Need to remember the small details!

I liked the platformer-puzzle idea, are my favorites. Maybe some type of help/popup window when you are stuck or a keycode to restart the level and not start for the first one. Congrats :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the tips, I wanted to make it without any text or dialogue but I soon realized that the player might have trouble with that. Sorry about it. Definitely will improve for next time!

Nice game. It's cool that you have to use the mosquito to get to the goal

Developer(+1)

Yeah, my original idea was to make bouncy mushrooms for that level, but I already had the complicated ai and I just did not have time for that.

Submitted

Was fun, but wasn't sure that rotating the box was the goal until it worked

Developer

Well, it's a puzzle game! It looks deceiving. Glad you enjoyed it! Any suggestions on how to improve for future jams? Did you like the ai or the water shader? I'm just asking because I want to know where I can improve and if I spent too much time on unnoticed things (like the water shader, or the ai for the last 2 levels)

Submitted(+1)

Well the bird and mosquito need improvements, and the water shader looked cool, but it would have been nice if the mirror image lined up with the world.
Put point filtering instead of bilinear filtering on your sprites, it'll make them less blurry

Developer

thanks for the tip.

The MacOS app is telling me that it's broken and cannot be opened... :(

Developer

Oh no! Let me fix that! Thanks for the comment.

Developer

Fixed! Sorry about the problem!
