oh man i really struggled with this. i think the combination of the slow movement (appropriate for a chameleon!), WASD following the chameleon's facing direction rather than the camera, and being unable to turn in place just gave me a lot of trouble navigating a small area. after ten minutes of trying i still couldn't even escape the cage :(
i love the aesthetic of flat fullbright 3d and really want to look around the house, but alas
I only played part of it. It seems like a fun game and I wanted to enjoy it, but the camera gave me some kind of motion sickness lol. plus kind of tricky to navigate
Play: The first time I played, I slipped off the log, and the chameleon didn't drop to the floor- instead, I stayed hovering in the air at a skewed position like I was still on the log. I tried to return to the log or some sort of comprehensible position, and instead, my camera clipped through the floor and flew off into space. I also got stuck in the clothes drawer, clipped under the radio and through the girl's feet, and the camera did some strange things while I was inside the yoga mat. (I'm not trying to complain, it's more of a bug report than anything else sdlkfjsfl. ) That being said, I like that there was a reset button in case of jank, it helped a lot. Slightly odd how you can't turn unless you're moving forwards or backwards, it made navigation a real challenge if I accidentally missed the objective. The slow movement of the character itself doesn't feel bad, and it makes sense what with the whole chameleon thing and all, it's just hard to be precise if you have to always be moving forwards. Tongue mode was a little confusing, since the indicator spawns in the middle regardless of where your mouse is at any given time, but I could easily reset my mouse position by leaving and re-entering tongue mode so it wouldn't bump against the edge of the screen so it wasn't too annoying once I figured that out. You might be able to turn that into a feature? But I don't know how.
Aesthetic: The little chameleon is so cute! The general art style is nice as well, low-poly people sometimes look a little uncanny but the girl you made is quite cute. I can imagine a whole house in this style being really fun to explore! The camera's a bit slow when you manually move it, and I like the angles when you climb on things but at times they felt a little too dramatic. I wouldn't want to play in fullscreen for fear of making myself dizzy.
Sound: The music was, indeed, relaxing, and the sound effects were minimal but well-done.
Narrative: You get out, she catches you.
Horny: I couldn't for the life of me get the 'nsfw' switch to turn on on the title screen, but I have an idea of what I missed given a screenshot on the gamepage, probably you just get to look up when she's only wearing a towel. Fits with the general vibes of the game- that is, low-key.
Kink: I'm not sure here. I'm guessing the chameleon isn't actually part of it? It's just, like, a vehicle to justify you being tiny and checking her out.
Stealth: If it weren't for the nsfw option, this would be a pretty innocent game, so points for that.
Harmony and Novelty: The weird camera and difficult controls make it frustrating at times, but it's short and forgiving enough not to be too detrimental to the experience, and the idea- not just the whole being a chameleon and using its tongue thing, but like you mentioned in another comment, being able to use the abilities of these different animals- is very interesting.
Final Thoughts: I have no clue how Godot works, so I can't make any specific suggestions regarding how to tighten up the physics. It's probably very difficult to get a 3D platformer working at any capacity, so even though I was detailed about what went wrong, the game's still impressive! If you continue working on this, I hope it goes well :')
Thank you for this detailed review !
I take good note of the bugs you mention, I might correct these in a post-jam update.
My goal is indeed to come up with far better controls and physics. I'm already working on it but it will take some time...
Cheers !
Love the style and atmosphere!
Neat idea and lovely 3D art. Comfy atmosphere. A rare case of slow movement speed that I don't particularly mind.
I think the puzzles could benefit from a subtle glow around object that can be interacted with when you're in tongue mode.
If you're planning to expand on the idea, I recommend adding some sort of fast-travel system to various locations around the rooms of the house.
Saluton and thank you for your feedback !
I was a bit concerned about the slowliness so your comment is much appreciated.
I'll definitely add a hint for the interactable objects on a future update 👌
I will expand it (if I manage to get better physics...) but I plan to do short chapters with different pets like snake, frog, tarentula, gecko...
Different critters their own play styles and abilities sounds like a really fun approach.
I'm having trouble leaving the cage -- I can climb up the stick, but it doesn't seem like there's a way out from there? And I can see some kind of latch on the ceiling on the other side, but I can't figure out a place where I can actually hit it with my tongue. What am I missing?
Thank you!
Heya ! Use the tongue on the latch handle. You can reach it by climbing on the rock. Sorry for that... I added a complete solution on the game's page. Hope you'll enjoy the game !
