Touhou for GIGA-NERDS

I can't believe I got roped into learning History facts to win at a Touhou fan game. (actually one of my weaknesses. am not at all interested in Historical facts)

Half of my playtime was me Alt-tabbing back and forth between the game and the search engine. I guess it's fun for fans to compare Touhou lore and Outside World dates, even if it may not suit the tastes of everyone. That's what kept me going.

In a way, it's about how the Outside World is reflected onto Gensokyo. Pretty clever use of the theme!

And then I tried the latest postjam version. The EXTRA mode is actually fun. No time for research, just what I've learned before, quick maths, and my gut feelings. That was the highlight for me!

Also for those interested there's a sukusuku.

The presentation in the game is remarkably charming (your remix is also quite lovely!). The logical gameplay with deduction was also a cool gameplay loop. Some comments complain about using a search engine being required, but I think that's still a fun way to play the game because there's still a challenge in applying Keine's theorem properly. It's pretty fun! But overall, I think what impresses me the most about this entry is the production. It seems perfect for a jam game scope-wise, and felt complete. Great job!

I ended up getting around 12/17! It's an odd choice to basically use events/people that I doubt any westerner would get for the most part, I mostly got carried along by my vague knowledge, would be interesting to see it get developed a bit further with more western stuff related to Touhou.

a cheat sheet on the side while answering questions that tells you how many years after each thing till it's remembered would go wonders to making this game a bit easier to play.

Agh, I wanna play this, but it keeps blocking the download by saying it has a virus!

Okay, I actually played it this time, and the controls are a bit more confusing than I expected for such a simple game: I feel mouse controls would make much more sense than using 'W' and 'S' and 'Enter'. There's also little that motivates me to keep going after messing up an answer, given you're forced to start over with a single mistake. And finally, the questions feel like I'm expected to have a search engine open at all times to look up their dates.

I wasn’t sure what to expect of this but after I did the tutorial I was excited and I ended up enjoying it a lot. Finally my ability to remember the years of things paid off!

Cool idea! I did not know the outside world dates very well at all but I was able to learn them through looking at the collection and managed to complete each difficulty. I think showing the dates (plus any added years for the theorem) for the two events after you answer would've made it easier to learn them.
