Theme

Pinball City

Correlation to theme
I think these songs fit the theme because it really gives me that more active energy that I get thinking about a city with pinballs. The first thought that popped into my mind was pinballs flying around everywhere throughout the city and that stuck with me for the main theme. That's why I went with the more vibrant, happy and active track. For the arcade theme, I started to play around with some melodies and ideas and found myself liking the first melody we hear in that track. I worked on it a bit further and started to envision this track playing in an arcade and that stuck with me.
I went with a more arcadey type of music.I used the FLEX midi library for some instruments, I picked this because the unrealistic sounding instruments try their hardest to mimic real instruments and it just adds to the arcadeyness. In the first track I also made a weird decision with the intro when the babboon comes in, the notes don’t really work but at the same time they kind of do, but they don’t? This emphasizes the effect and vibe created by the second part of the track. In The Arcade I deciced to switch up some chords and they are also a bit unexpected and aren’t heard in the entire song and only revealed nearing the end which gives it more of a conclusion but leaves it open enough for the track to be able to loop back into the familiar melody.

Tracklist:
Pinball Metropolis - This is the city's theme. It's a very vibrant and active city with pinballs flying everywhere, fast transportation, happy people.
The Arcade - This song plays in the arcade where the Pinball people can play with, you guessed it, pinball machines! Like the rest of the city, the arcade is a happy place where the pinball people pass the time with more pinballs.

The tracks are able to loop but I obviously cannot loop the track on the streaming platform itself so I've chosen for a fade out when the track starts over rather than just abruptly cutting it off.

The daw I use is FL Studio. The plugins/instruments used are Soraboy, Magical 8 Bit Plugin, FLEX, NES VST and used sforzando to load the Earthbound soundfont for the overdriven guitar sound (aka the lead instrument in Megalovania) and a Megaman Soundfont for some strings.

Pinball Metropolis: The chiptune sound in the fun bass line is the part that sells me on the pinball theme! Compositionally, I think that you did a great job as the progression and harmony feel interesting. You have great variation in the different sections of the piece which drives it forward making this very fun to listen to. The part at the end of the loop is a fun fall down into the original key which is definitely one way to modulate! My favorite part of this track is at 2:15 with the simple percussion transition, such a fun way to break up the song!

The Arcade: This theme is a fun and bouncy and almost has a “your Pokemon is evolving!” quality to it. I think trying a 3/4 time signature is a very interesting choice, but it gives a bit of sophistication to the arcade portion of your city.

Overall I think these two tracks tell different sides to a fun and unique city. Great work and thank you for sharing!

I love the progressions of Arcade (both arrangement and harmony).

G - A - F7M - C. The use of the A major add a very uplifting mood to the piece but the F7M immediatly follows with a touch of melancoly. That a great job !

Congrats, you made me listen to a 3.5 minute long chiptune track and kept me interested!! That ain't an easy feat for me (as I usually don't like chiptune), and multiple other entries also managed to keep me interested like this! Very nice.

I wanted to say, "I especially like the theme from 0:39 to 1:21... and the one from 1:22 to 1:52." But that's practically the entire song! So, very well done, very cool song! :D

Edit: Oh, and the 'Arcade Final' song is also very cool! It repeats itself over and over, but upping the hype every time. It sounds really nice!

Edit2: Also, I remember you from the first Town Music Jam. Has been a while. You had that awesome 'Peculiar Book Town'. I remember not thinking much of the song at the time, but I learned to really appreciate that song over time. It was quite well-made!

Thank you so much! I sadly missed the second town music jam, I found out there was a second one a couple days after it ended. I'm glad you like my first Town Music Jam track, I'm surprised you think so as it is an odd song with odd time signatures and polymeters, but hey, can't complain :)

I think both of the pieces are very creative and match well with the theme. I especially like the melody of "The Arcade". Some parts of "Pinball Metropolis" could've been cut out to make the song shorter and more memorable though. Overall, I think you did a great job! :)

Thank you. My idea was to have the first track do its little things where all the instruments start harmonizing and then theres a quick break and then it all returns so that it's not just your typical buildup, climax, loop kind of track but in hindsight I agree with you that it could've been cut out.

I think is not a bad job, the sounds or instruments are into the concept, but I can't remember a special leitmotiv, and sometimes I think the tensions are so long and with all the instruments sounds a little bit noisy, but I should say that the break is so so good. all that I wrote was for the first song, the second one, was so sweet and I like it, was like Pokemon Red or something like that, however the drums I think was so heavy for the kind of music... Again, is not a bad job, but could be better. =)

Great job, my favorite of the two is the arcade theme!
