Really liked the game, it had a very cool vibe! I also specially like the buttons that reveal parts of the levels design. It is adds a very nice surprise factor.

Nice platformer! I particularly like your choice of main character and background music - it fits the vibe you were going for perfectly. A couple of things I noticed:

  • Especially in a platformer with lots of vertical movement, it might be a good idea to zoom the camera out a little and/or only make the camera follow the character left/right and not up/down. That way, even if the character jumps, you can still see the ground that you're trying to land on. I don't know what game engine you used, but in Godot, it would only take a minute or two to set something like that up. Worth considering for your future games.
  • The bounce pads and the buttons use the same sprite, I think. It's true that they're different sizes, but it would be easier for the player to recognize at a glance if they had different appearances, too. It could be as simple as changing the color or making one thicker or something.
  • As others mentioned, the spikes were challenging. I think the gaps between the spikes could have been made just a bit wider to make it more forgiving. There's a difference between a skill challenge and the game expecting a human to be pixel perfect 😉

Overall, these are just nitpicks I noticed. I loved the atmosphere you created. I could easily envision this as a full game with a poignant story. I wonder what it is Ennui found? Well done!

Great platformer! I really enjoyed the jump pads and the buttons you had to trigger to make more platforms too! The spikes were ehhhhh.. I wish the hitbox on them or the player were a bit smaller at least. But the checkpoints made even that a lot less frustrating! Great entry!

great game, maybe if you make the spikes colisions smaller it will feel more fair to play 😊

I can't beleave you did all this art in just 3 hours, i didn't made the art of my game,  very nice job!

Developer

I didn’t make all the art. The background and main sprite aren’t mind. You can find the links in my description.

Nice game!

cool artstyle but the art isnt really consistent and really jarring,  gameplay is good but a little too zoomed in

Developer

I agree. I wish I'd spent more time making the springboards/spikes/buttons etc... but I just ran out of time. I'm still learning, so I spent a lot of time figuring out how checkpoints work. When the jam is over I'm gonna go in and make the art more consistent. And I thought about tweaking the camera, but again, I'm learning, so 3 hours was a rush for me.

Thanks for the feedback! Good luck with the jam.
