Very cool game design! Love the concept, the game is responsive, fun, addicting! And the story is engaging, it actually adds to the fun of the game! Excellent work! You could improve the spawning of enemies, as you saw I could exploit the game (since it's quite forgiving, which is not necessarily a bad thing)!

That's a trippy visual effect.

It would've been nice if the game fell into some sort of end state more quickly. Either by ramping up the difficulty or ending after some number of kills, this way it just feels like it trails off.

EDIT: The initial text is a bit too long and hard to read (as in the letters are hard to read)

Developer(+1)

Yeah, a bit of an accelerated end might be nice. The game gets harder over time, but maybe not fast enough...

Thank you a lot for playing and you feedback. :)

I really liked the pixelization but it seemed a little random on when it would get worse in spots.  Otherwise really smooth and great music.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing.

I'm not sure what you mean by "getting worse in spots"? It gets worse slowly over time, when an enemy touches you or if you shoot a wall or yourself.

Submitted

Ah!  Must have missed that shooting the walls makes it worse.  That's why I thought it was random.  Thanks for the clarification!

The music is so good! I really love it. I have a question, how did you pull off the effect of pixelization? Was it threw a shader?

Developer

Yep, the pixelation effect is a shader. A pretty simple one at that. I have now linked the source code on the itch page of the game if you want to take a look. (Keep in mind that the source code of a 3 hour game can be quite messy :D)

Seems like all the other comments mentioned what I would say.

A small bug, if you hug a wall, you can shoot through it as the bullet is spawned far from the character.

For the difficult, it would be interesting to have a little less health. And for recovering health, return only half way to 100% (if near to 0%, get 50%, if at around 80, go to 90%) I think it would give that feeling of just delaying the certain defeat (better when used with high-scores)

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback.

That's a neat system for restoring health (or stability in this case). I will keep that in mind for future projects or should I continue work on this game.

Hi!
It's a pretty nice game. I really like the slow down mechanic and the pixelation with low sanity. It brings a very nice touch. It was pretty fun.
I got to 285.

Developer

Thank you for playing! That is a pretty good score, I think. Didn't have too much time for playtesting. :D

I'm glad you had fun.

Submitted(+1)

Absolutely love this game! How visuals become messy when you losing - brilliant!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The visual effect was actually the first thing I decided to do, the rest was decided later. :D

Submitted(+1)

I really like how you made use of the visuals to show the decrease in stability
However, I think the game is too lenient:

  • You can take over a dozen hits before you lose
  • Killing one enemy fully restores stability
Developer(+1)

Yeah, I was unsure myself if the game wasn't a bit too forgiving. Balancing games is hard, especially in 3 hours. I decided to keep it on the easier side, to be safe. Better than being frustrating, I think.

Thank you for playing and for your feedback. :)
