Nice short and challenging game, I liked all the different cars with unique horns. I think you need to add some way to tell how far you’ve progressed the road, maybe some markings or an UI meter. You could add other AI jaywalkers that cross the road with you. It would be hilarious to see all them randomly getting run over, while you are the one who “made it”. :-D

Really fun. Good use of sounds. maybe some powerups. Graphics so simple that is was sharp. The animation was solid too. Liven up the street some. Texture maybe. Again fun

I like how each car feels very different because of the different colours, horns and speeds. The red car especially was pretty funny when I first saw it haha

The background car sounds are pretty good and I like how you change the pitch of the horns slightly so it doesn't feel too repetitive.

I don't really think you need a level system for this kind of game, I couldn't tell the difference in difficulty between some levels. It would probably be easier to have a high score system where you have to keep crossing roads that increase in difficulty and as you get further the harder vehicles show up.

Also, lane markings would be really helpful and it would make the player seem like they are always moving. Right now when the whole screen is just grey it feels like the player is standing still.

Thank you for the feedback! I also noticed the issues you pointed out after the submission period, I 'll add a high score system and lane markings soon. Edit: I'm a bit busy currently, so "soon", I mean in a month at most.

Really enjoyable little game. I think the thing you really nailed or me was getting some character into the different coloured cars. It wasn't long before I was recognising the distinct sounds and driving speeds of cars, like the yellow one who would dart out of nowhere or the red one who was just plain breaking the law. I found it all surprisingly engaging - which I would put down to really nice use of animation and sound effects. The ambient sounds in the background set a nice groundwork for the car-horns to work over. The sound when you get hit is also lighthearted and silly, like the animation. Some people would be tempted to make it gross or shocking, but you handled it in a way that made me laugh every time. Nice work! :)

Alright, so first of all this game made me laugh! Look how this guy moves, this is how I see everybody who'd jaywalking while I'm driving :D Nice sound design and Foley! I could also see it as an one button game, where, for example you press space to make a step and you gotta stop or spam faster to avoid cars!

This is pretty fun! I made it to level 11. I really liked the sounds, and I think this would be a great mobile game after some polish. It would be cool as an endless game!

Loved the game! Simple and engaging. Even getting hit by the cars was fun, just because of the combination of very simplistic animation and the sound. It created a really nice comedic effect.

The buses were terrifying. And I mean it in a good way. It was like seeing a whale for the first time in the wild. Just wooooooooah.

A really neat game, good job! :3

A nice game that could be turned into mobile. It is very similar to crossy road so a different theme - e.g. river rapids could help a lot. A better walking animation would also be nice.

Question: How did you achieve a fade transition in Godot between the level scenes/children

Thanks for playing my game and thank you for the feedback! By the way, I'm new to Godot and this is my first game using the engine. I may consider making it mobile and changing the theme if I decide to continue working on this game.

And to answer your question, here's how I created a fade transition between each level. I created a new scene and created a CanvasLayer node. Then I added a ColorRect and an AnimationPlayer node as its children.


I used AnimationPlayer to animate the ColorRect's modulate property from #00ffffff (transparent) to #ffffff (opaque) then back to #00ffffff. I created two animations: one for fading in and one for fading out. When a level is completed, the fade in animation starts. Once the fade in animation finishes, go to the next level while ColorRect covers the screen, and finally play the fade out animation. You just need each scene to inherit the transition scene.

Make sure to set the CanvasLayer Layer property so that it can be drawn on top of the other nodes in the scene, but be aware that if you set the Layer value higher than that of an interactive node like a button, the player won't be able to interact with it. If you still have any questions, I won't mind making a tutorial. Hope this helps!
