I got to the main menu, and the music immediately seemed interesting. Mysterious and fun. And while I'm generally not a fan of fancy fonts (they can get hard to read, but at the font size used in this game it didn't seem like that much of a problem), I think it's not too bad on this game's main menu, and it fits the music and colours. The mouse (input device) image in the instructions also matches the colour scheme nicely. One thing: the changes in the music when you enter and exit the credits screen are a little bit too noticeable. The music in the game also works really well, but the time limit sorta makes it hard to hear some of it. The bed music was the easiest to listen to, because there wasn't a time limit.
Running around and picking up the teddy bears was fun, even if a bit of an obvious thing to do with the theme and limitation (way too many games were about collecting things and getting back with them within an often tight time limit). The fact that combat stopped the timer and even gave me extra time made it a lot more fun. And I like that I had to think about when to fight, rather than about how to fight.
The art worked really well for the eerie and mysterious but fun setting. It was cute and eerie at the same time. And it seems to be consistent throughout the part of the game I played.
Good job on making a fun game that both looks and sounds interesting.
I think I'd been more likely to try out this game had it had a browser version. But I'm glad I tried it anyway. I picked up five teddy bears (two pumpkin-orange, or whatever that colour is called, two purple and one blue). I might return and try to get the other ones at some point later, but that will probably be after the jam.
I am glad that you actually enjoyed the game, and appreciate your kind comments a lot!
Due to HTML export issues with GameMaker, I had to stick with windows export only. I think I will work on fixing these issues to make the game more accessible. I believe in general we were bitten by not having a web version playable, thus reducing the reachability by a huuuge margin. Lesson learned, as this is my first game jam.
I love the graphics on this! The turn based combat has a lot of potential, but I didn't feel like there was much progression with it. That's a lot of work to bite off for a game jam, turn based systems can be super rough. Great job!
Thank you for taking the time to play and record our game! You have pointed out some great points, such as creating balance and strategizing, which definitely not easy to pull off within the time frame for a game jam. I was hoping the video wouldn't stutter, as I found it enjoyable to watch.
Really fun game! I had a lot of fun!
The progression system is really fun and the graphics are nice. I really liked the music too despite it not being made for the game it fit really well.
My only big problem was that in the beginning the fighting mechanics paired with the slow movement caused the gameplay to be really frustrating. As it was up to chance whether you could survive even 1 fight and you couldn't outrun or outmanouver enemies. And it was really frustrating to die, walk slooooowly back to where I was just to be killed again. But after getting about two purple bears and a red bear the game became much more fun. So maybe the starting damage could be a little higher or you could surround the player with enemies with less health so in the beginning you don't die that often. It's not a problem if some areas are only accessible when you are stronger but this was a little overkill. It was up to chance on which run I could finally reach my first bears. But I admit some positioning also played into it to not trigger all enemies to follow me.
Also, sometimes it wasn't clear between which trees can I fit. Sometimes it looks like I should be able to go between trees and couldn't and sometimes it was the other way around.
Also after the boss I would like the option to continue the dream or to wake up other than just it putting me in the main menu.
Overall, really cool and original game! I collected all bears and defeated the boss. It's great!
Thank yo so much for the great feedback. I am glad you had fun playing the game!
Very Nice game!
I loved the tutorial ☺
The only thing is to make the walking animation match the walking speed☺
Thank you!
Sure!
I like the main idea, music is fun but it makes you think in something more dark, like addams family or something. I also like the art and style. As others said some improves in the battle system will make it better. There is so much rush on the game to rescue those poor bears a shoot battle system could work perhaps?
Anyway, i enjoyed the game!!! Congratulations.
I love this game! The art style is simply beautiful which makes playing it great! I do feel however the battling system could do with a bit of touching up but other than that a great game overall! Keep at it :D
Would be great if you could check my game :) <3
Absolutely! This is the feature that needs most work. Thanks for your feedback!
I love the art of this game! the battle system could use some improvement but i can see you have already acknowledged that. Other than that Really great work!
Thank you so much 😃
Great work! I love the art SO much! I feel the battle system is a bit lacking though. It was a bit too random and not very engaging. Other than that, very enjoyable. I hope the feedback helps!
Thank you for your feedback. Glad that you like the art 😃. As for the battle system, I agree, and hope to make it better!
I like your interpretation of there and back where she goes back and forth in and out of the dream. The attention in the detail to the game such as moving hair and gentle animations, made it a lot more immersive. The character looking out for danger as well as the darkness closing in on you emphasizes that you have a time limit.
Sometimes I felt as if there was too much enemies following me (up to 3 at times). For the battle system I'm surprised you had the time to add turn based attacks. For the attack system in the future it would be make the attacks more interesting to have the player throw the dice at the enemy and then the enemy throw the dice at the player. I wasn't really able to understand attack damage all that much though. All I understood is that the attack system was random, but ok. The attack system is really repetitive though, I found myself spamming the dice trying to rush the battle. Maybe for more advanced enemies you could have two dice instead of one dice to spice things up maybe? Or maybe you should make it so that you have to time the roll of the dice at a specific time or on rhythm, like a metronome?
There was a bug where I was stuck to one of the light yellow boards in the scene apparently, but it only ruined the playthrough for that round so it's not a big deal.
Other than that good job & good luck in the jam! :)
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this detailed reply. I find your feedback very valuable too, and agree with the points that you have presented.
There wasn't enough time to introduce the game mechanics in an easy way to the player, nor to test the fun factor in the battle system, which resulted in a repetitive battle format. The player stats are not explained well either, and there wasn't enough time to implement a stats sheet.
As for the number of enemies, I believe it could have been balanced better. I feel there are some interesting ways to control the flow and difficulty of the level without overwhelming the player with too many enemies.
Again, thank you so much for your feedback, it is very valuable and will keep it in mind!
loved it! Good job
It'll be nice if you check out our game too😁
