You captured the horror atmosphere perfectly - great sound design, and use of lighting. The mechanics fit the theme well, and I know how difficult it is to fill 3d environments with so much stuff in a short time frame.

It's been said a few times in other people's comments, so I won't complain about the walk speed, but I think my only other major gripe is that it's kind of hard to navigate in the forest. There's a lot of area to cover, with a lot of trees, but then all of the keys are in the one area that's different. It might be worth making the trees a little more sparse and/or clumped, and having a few other points of interest dotted around. Considering the amount of environmental work you'd already done, it would have been a lot to expect, but it's something to bear in mind in the future, or if you're planning to update the game once the judging period is over.

I really don't play games like this, as a rule, but what I thought you really captured... even when I *knew* there would be a monster (like when I missed a key and had to return down the same hallway twice), when I knew it would be there, it still made me cringe and chills run along me.  Something about the timing of the sfx maybe, but it was realllly spooky and uncomfortable.  Not for me, but props on making the elements of that style WORK.

Very creepy and an interesting approach to this game jam. I was very curious about the story and wanted to find out more! I would suggest maybe making the player a bit faster, but otherwise good work on this.

It's nice to see a 3D game in the jam.  Good job on the credits too. Making an FPS game is hard so I am impressed. I hate to admit it but I did indeed get jump scared. I like the idea that you keep coming back to the same place but things are changing. I see you're a relatively new gamedev so I have some constructive feedback:

  • It really needs a pause menu, but I imagine you were pressed for time.
  • Needs a settings menu too with FOV and Mouse Sensitivity
  • As the other comment said, you walk to slow.
  • The jump scares are a bit cheap. If you are interested in further pursuing horror I would look into dynamically placing things off the center of the frame, and then making them disappear the player looks at them.

That being said, you only had 7 days to do this, so a very good effort.

The game actually scared me! I was really enjoying it but I didn't finish. I could not find the 3rd key in the forest area with the cabin. I tried several times. My feedback would be to add a run button and to lock the mouse cursor to the game. Great work!

thanks for the feedback! These are definitely things I can add/change in the future! If you’d like a spoiler on where the key is, I’d be happy to tell you so you can finish, but that’s the end of the game anyway (because of time restraints)

I will be honest. The game is scary.

The music made me cautious about my surrounding, and combined with the disturbing jumpscares scared the thing out of me.

I am sure a fan of this experience will be satisfied.

Unfortunately, the Mac version doesn't open.

that's odd because I made the game on my Mac and when I download it, it works fine. If you haven't tried already, try right-click open? Otherwise, the windows version definitely works!
