How does your game apply the limitation (and optionally, the theme)?
The player is an archdevil about to perform an evil ritual (a typical 'final boss'), but also resolves employee disputes like a traditional boss. You're constantly "on the edge" between these two definitions of boss, this edge being made extra clear by the stark line down the middle, separating the dungeon and the office. Things are also on the edge of breaking down if you're not constantly solving problems!

Team Size

Solo (1)

What main engine/tool/language did you use to construct the game?
Godot

Which diversifiers did you use, if any?
None, although you can do a Quick Run with the custom time settings

Hey, I saw this game on discord, and was really glad it came to me through random submissions.

Great work on the game! I really liked the concept of it, and it ran smoothly for me.  I had a lot of fun while playing, and hope for a continuation :)

I imagined having weapons spread around the castle would make a great addition, if yoou wish to continue this project. The thing I loved the most was the details in the base, and the personality of the NPCs.

Overall, geat entry!

A lot of systems in this one, good job.

The art reminded me of those newground games, quite nostalgic heh

Developer

Thanks! Even when I'm making a platformer I can never resist adding some pointless complexity :D

Glad you enjoyed it!

Really enjoyed it. I think it communicates what it's like to be a game boss in an interesting way. You have the minions who the heroes have to clear out before they come to you - the final boss protecting the orb. Except you don't get absolute loyalty from goblins and somehow the cooler always breaks and there is tons of paperwork :(

  • Great concept and execution. I liked the soundtrack too.
  • I kind of wish there was a way to sit back sometimes and let minions do the job. I felt like I had to fight most of the time and my minions were quite worthless.
  • Tying into the point above - I feel like upgrades are a must. I can choose to become more powerful (kill more enemies myself) or power my minions to do a better job and do more of office work. It wouldn't be as "on the edge", but I feel like when playing games like these, it feels very nice to be able to choose your playing style.

Great work! I survived for 15 minutes - never in my life I was so relieved that the evil has won XD

Developer

Thanks! Upgrades were definitely a thing I considered, ideally the humans would get stronger over time and you'd have to get stronger as well, focusing on minions, spells, attacks, etc... But yknow, that idea died in the name of overscoping. :D Glad you had fun!

Very good game! I had a ton of fun trying that, well done! I wish you'll keep working on this one, it's a neat idea.

My only recommendation for now would be to probably rework the balancing a bit, and to rework the player's attacks (they feel super slow and not responsive to me). Otherwise, great freaking job!

Really fun and cool idea, but GOD DAMN. I am an archdevil, damnit! I did not enslave these miners just to be cowards! Stop being a wuss and just put your pickaxe through 'em, it'll be fine! And these goblins should take pride in being on the frontlines. Without the frontline, everything falls into shambles. I'll whip them into shape yet! (Once I have a bit more free time) Also, the sound and visuals are really nice. It's very satisfying to just deck hoards of people

WAS FUN!!!, it looks like it came from Cyanide and Happiness, I'm a fan of that channel, so this tickles my interest.

VOTED!!! also will you kindly please rate mine?

Great Game! It really made me feel like a boss of two separate worlds which I had to head at the same time. Great job establishing those two roles in the game! Really enjoyed this one. Great Job!

Heya! Really liked the visuals and the game felt very polished which is great to see!

I thought the gameplay was a little too easy. Hanging out by the ladder and jamming my finger into the spacebar repeatedly did the trick against pretty much every enemy and even when I died there were enough minions spawning to keep the enemies busy while I waited to be resurrected.

A good time nonetheless!

Amazing. This is my favourite game of the jam so far. I just spent the last hour and a half playing it, and finally managed to beat it with 3000hp/10min and then with the default settings 2500hp/15min. It's though but fair.

Honestly it feels like a complete game. The mix of tower defence, platforming and management is so well tuned and fun to play. The theme is on point and the demonic office setting is hilarious.

Congratulations

(I'll come back later to try the hard mode)

Nice ! This combo attack felt great.

I think i encountered a bug, it told me to kill 2 feral ogre but i could only find one. Good job on this submission there's a lot going on !

Developer

There should only ever be one feral ogre. You might've gotten confused because the icon still says "kill a feral ogre" even after you kill it? If you press the button, the problem should resolve.  Sorry for the unclarity, glad you enjoyed it though!

It feels like a complete game, each mechanic and limitation was very well designed.
It keept me on my toes but was not unfair, it turn into some type of management game. Well done!

Really nice visually, liked all the animations and effects for the attacks and spelts, Music and sound effects also fit the game nicely style you went for.

Great concept! I'd never played a side-scroller tower defense before.
I had a long run on the second time!
Congrats! =)

Nice game, fun assembly and all of the doodle characters looks nice. I like how the industry building been halved. This is more like action phased, no actual strategy or tactical elements showed up yet. Minions would be more fun to be recruited or created by the player. There are also so much characters and stuff i do not know what exactly i can do.

This game's visual and concept is amazing, LOVED IT!

I like the game, but I feel like at the recommended settings (15 min) it’s too long, at least given how it’s just this one level that doesn’t really change outside of the core game loop’s resource management. Its nice that you can customize the game settings, but I think a couple of presets would be nice given that it can be hard to tell the exact effects of moving a bunch of sliders.

Developer(+1)

That's fair! It was 10m in testing, but the testers told me it felt like it was over too fast. I originally planned to have a few preset options for difficulty, but didn't have the time to balance them so settled on the sliders. Thanks for the feedback!

Awesome game!  Nice job incorporating the rule over human kind with the feel of office life.  I need to try to open more portals around the water cooler and get my fellow employees to take up arms against the human race... wait.. ill just keep playing this instead

check my game out if you get some time https://itch.io/jam/vimjam2/rate/1200495

Great Job, love the visuals. Amazing for just one person as well. The only minor issue I had was the game window was bigger than my screen, just had to zoom out to fix it.

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the graphics, considering this is game is made by one person only the results are really impressive! A bit too easy but congrats!
