Things I liked about the game:
Things I didn't like:
I also have mixed feelings about the high quality audio with Game Boy visuals. It's a weird choice IMO, but may just be a me thing.
Overall, the game looks nice, it has some good things in there, it just needs to have the difficulty refined.
I just wanted to say this game is amazing. Like the art, music and mechanics(they even have a map!) for a game jam is chef's kiss. But I'm sorry to say I didn't rate the game. Because I'm not a fan of the genre/game (it's too hard for my smooth brain ;-;) and it would genuinely feel unfair giving it a lower than 5 stars rating because of my own skill issue, and not seeing all the cool features due to it. (I'm certain there's much cool feature I haven't seen from the equip and trinket screen)
If you are a fan of masocore(I want to be the guy genre...I think), please give this game a try and give a fair rating for me! (or yourself, or for the dev, thanks anyway!)
This is beautiful! I loved the vibe. To me, platformer games like Ori are hard, haha so definitely didn't beat it (yet) but I found the challenge fun, I really appreciate you offered different difficulties, that's really clever. I'm still trying on normal and was doing okay. Gonna bump it down next and keep going but I wanted to share my thoughts. Really, for me, my biggest issue wasn't the difficulty, found the text incredibly hard to read! I'm legitimately dyslexic and that probably didn't help but I had to stare and think really hard to read any of the text.
I can't wait to see a more proper video game lad give it a shot and see the later bits of it! But it's SO fluid and impressive game play wise, so really, huge HUGE congrats to that! This kinda pixel art takes real time and the look and feel / vibe of the game is immaculate.
Presentation and style wise, this game is immaculate. The gameplay though is too hard for someone like me who isn't a fan of action platformers. I gave up halfway because I lost interest in moving forward due to dying way too many times. Mind you, I played on Fledgling.
also one of my favorites, love the mechanics, I love the graphics. But god, I suck at video games, I could barely get past the switch. I highkey hope next jam folks make a 'hella easy mode' xD for folks who suck at video games bc I want to play it and get it so bad, I gave up pretty quickly, but again, I've never been good at games even if i like them a lot, and I'm not a challenger type person though, I don't like when things become a repetitive time sync(dying a lot) but ik a lot of classic games are LIKE that and I get it.
I did still vote it 5 star, bc this may be a me problem.
I'm going to be honest. I really love the look of this game. I love the graphics and the music is spot-on. But the difficulty level is insane. I even played on Fledgling and had trouble with this. I think the biggest problems I faced were the knockbacks (which often threw me into water and caused additional damage) and when the big enemies stunned me (I had at least four stunlocks that killed me in the mines alone). I can see you did amazingly on this game, but I was frustrated by the time I made it to the third bench. I'm not sure if that's just me being bad with platformers or if the game is just that difficult.
It's a little tricky to control at first. I feel like something like this should have controller options. Then again, it's for a Game Jam so it's forgivable. Graphics and sound effects were spot on too. Like the John Carpenter's the Thing aspects to the first Hawk enemy you face.
The game should work with pretty much any controller automatically, and there’s also rebinding in the options menu, for both keyboard and controller.
Oooh. I had no idea. Might suggest this to my brother then since he has one.
