Hi folx, I always appreciate when jams have an into thread so we can get to know each other and make connections, so I'll get us started!

Hi, I'm Rayne (they/them), I write for Even Footing Games, as well as making my own silly little games, and I'm a volunteer with the Trans Empowerment Project. I'm a Queer, Non-Binary weirdo, this is my second hosted game jam, and I love horror (the Thing and the Shining are two of my favorite winter-y horror flicks!)

Now it's your turn, tell us your name (or at least what you want to go by for this), your pronouns, your horror inspirations (either for this jam, or just in general), and a little bit about you! 馃挌

Hi. My name is... you can call me Kay. My pronouns are she/her. I created The Thirty Moons System. I hate horror with a burning passion, but I love playing dramatic situations so I guess I am making a horror game XP. I love ponies big and (my) little. I enjoy writing fanfiction & or erotica, drawing, I am currently dabbling in making a videogame I don't know if I will get far, but I am having fun with it so far and last but not least I, of course, make physical games, TTRPG's and zines.

So my first thought for a winter horror land is a haunted house. In My Little Pony they have a holiday called Hearth Warming.  Spirits called windigos freeze everything. They are a force of nature that can not be stopped. They can be held at bay. If you give something in the name of friendship it creates a fire of friendship that drives the windigos away. On Hearth Warming every pony creates giant fires that will keep the windigos at bay for another year.

You are locked in a house that is being frozen. Every five minutes everyone has to give up part of their character. Once no one has anything left to give they all freeze. I don't know how you win yet. Short point long my inspiration is the windigos from MLP.

If you have any ideas feel free to let me know. If you need help with your game I will be glad to help in any way I can. <3

So, take this with a grain of salt because I am a white person, but from what I've read in a lot of places, Indigenous people have asked not to use that particular creature in games and things because it's a taboo and a part of the religious beliefs of certain tribes, but again, I'm not an expert! Just something to keep in mind, but I think there's a lot that could still be done with this idea with maybe a few tweaks! 馃檪

I appreciate your telling me. I am not indigenous either. I would not want to be disrespectful to anyone. I would not steal another person's culture for a game or any other reason. I do know wendigo are deeply spiritual and not to be used by just anyone.

Windigos are wind spirits from MLP. They are named after wendigo but in no way related. There is also the huricanter, a weather spirit that is the same kind of creature as the windigo.  Instead of snow storms it creates hurricanes. I do think there are better weather puns out there. As far as I can find no one was upset by the pun. No one ever claimed they were in any way realated to indigenous culture.

Even if they have a different explanation, I would argue that the name is too similar to say that it would be a good idea, whether or not there was pushback against MLP, you know? But as you pointed out, there are other, better weather puns! 馃槉

The person you'd be best to speak to on this is nuffofabby.bsky.social who is an award winning ttrpg performer, sensitivity reader and cultural consultant in this area as well as being one of the loveliest and most approachable people in the ttrpg community :)

Hi everyone! I'm Penny, a ttrpg designer, editor and sensitivity reader :) I mostly make cozy, horror and folkpunk games inspired by my own (Romani)  culture's folklore and mythos. I love all aspects of horror genre but for this jam I'm planning to make a short and punchy solo game using the theme of isolation :) I was super excited to find this jam that combines festive and horror - two of my fave themes to combo! - and I'm excited to see what everyone comes up with for it! :D I'll be putting community copies up of the game; if they run out and you want one please shout at me and I'll put more up - I try to make sure there's always community copies available for all but it's sometimes hard to notice when they run dry :)

If you haven't already seen it, you might consider making your game a dual submission for Solovember!

Submitted(+1)

Thanks so much! :D I already submitted another game - White Witchmas - for Solovember so it seemed a bit greedy to submit two! :)

HostSubmitted(+1)

Not at all! Unless there's a specific rule against it, most jams I've seen are happy to have more than one! 馃槉

Oh fab! Thanks for the tip then! :D

Your community copies flew away before I even had a chance to grab one haha

Oh gosh I'm so sorry! I will put more up right away!! XD

Hi everyone, I am George, releasing games under Koke RPGs.

I find the theme really interesting as I have never created a horror game (not that I have a lot to show as I only started publishing the last two months)! I was also looking into some postcard games lately and thought it will be interesting to try and make my idea fit on a postcard / business card as well.

Let鈥檚 see how it turns out :) I am planning releasing the text only version for free and also have community copies available.

Really excited to see what everyone will come up with!

Heck yeah, welcome!

Hi all, I'm a newbie writer who's been doing art and designwork in ttrpg but only started writing my own stuff last month.

I just entered my submission: Zombieees! in Santa's Village (read like Panic! at the Disco because I'm that guy) which is a module for my one-page system Zombieees. It's a kid-friendly, tongue-in-cheek horror with the option to go darker up to the GM and players' discretion. Very rules-lite and simple mechanics with lots of freedom and possibilities :)

Welcome! Love to see new folx joining in and making their own games!

Hi, everyone. I'm Morvil (they/he/she), translator, GM and mythology enthusiast, now leaving as an expat in Czech Republic. Together with my husband (Moyzhes) we create indie TTRPG's for some time now. The Winter Horrorland Jam offered me a great way to express myself out of depression, so I managed to devise two small games to submit. One explores the themes of home and homelessness and involve group of people escaping from a monster on the streets of big city. Another is inspired by Icelandic tales of a draugr - a sort of evil undead - creating havoc at the roof of the household and centers on feelings and conections. Both are light-ruled, the second one - GMless.

Sounds awesome, I love Icelandic lore and draugrs are so underused in games that aren't Skyrim.

Hiya! I'm Lore (she/her), working on about a thousand TTRPGs so why not add another? I love romance, fantasy, horror, sci-fi and queer themes.

For this jam I'm writing a tarot-based solo game where you play as a character who has gone home for Christmas... only to get snowed in just as a grisly murder is discovered. Now you're trapped with family, friends and strangers, all of whom had motive and opportunity. Learn everyone's secrets, repair relationships and find the killer before they try to eliminate those who suspect them. Totally inspired by the movie "8 Femmes", which is so very silly and I cannot recommend it enough.

I can鈥檛 wait to see how you use tarot for your game (just put out a solo tarot based game myself!) and I鈥檒l have to check out that movie! Thanks for joining! 馃檪

I can't wait to see either! I'm still figuring it out 馃槀
