Hey,

I want to thank you all for participating in this WOWIEEEEE event. I'm super happy and proud about what we've accomplished together. You made some great games and the average amount of feedback each game got is just insane.

Here are the winners of Wowie Jam 2.0:
1) 1 Bit, 2 Bit, 3 Bit, Four. by JustASmolBoi
2) Outer Bounds by Waterlemon
3) Grey-Box Testing by Trickshot Labs

Check out the other top spots of the jam here:  https://itch.io/jam/wowie-jam-2/results Congrats to everybody who made it onto the first site!! Absolutely awesome! The top spots are well deserved as far as I'm concerned.

For the top 20 I'm giving out some free launch day Will You Snail Steam Keys!
If you're under the top 20 and want one, hit me up on Discord, Twitter, email (tyroller.jonas[at]gmail.com) or simply tell me how I can contact you below. :)

I'll spend this week making a YouTube video with the most interesting games of the jam. It'll likely be a mixture of games in the top spots and games I just pick at random. Subscribe and hit the bell if you want to get notified for that: https://www.youtube.com/c/jonastyroller :P

What is your favorite game of the jam?
Which games would you like to see developed into a full release?
What did you learn from the jam?
What did you like or dislike about the experience?
Should we do anything differently next time?
Please let me know what you think. I'll make sure to read everything you post in the comments here.

Last but not least I hope you all had a great time and managed to learn something new about game development. Finishing a game in such a short amount of time is a great achievement so big congrats to everybody who managed to submit a game on time. Well done, be proud of yourself, no matter where you ended up on the list. :)

Big big thank you and congratulations to all of you.
See you soon on YouTube. :)

The answer for the 2 first question is the same, I would love to see a "Outer Bounds" full game release, I loved that game, seems to be inspired by CELESTE, and it's great!

And I've learned precious lessons, but I think that the one that will stick with me it's that I CAN finish a game, and it feels awesome!!

I think that JAMs give us "practice" in finishing projects, witch we can hopefully take this practice and bring to our own personal "commercial" projects. Even though I didn't got a top spot I'm really proud of myself, I didn't think I would or could make it, and now "I'M FILLED WITH DETERMINATION!"

I loved everything from the JAM, specially giving and receiving feedbacks.

I don't know if it's possible, but I think we could have a "feedback option". Something like "Light/Motivational" and "Heavy/Hard Critic".

I may by wrong, but there's probably people that are just starting in JAM, people that want to see what they can do in short amount of time, and this is what they want other to see as well. In this case I think a more of "Light/Motivational" feedback would be great. This person wasn't actually fight for the top spot, but wanted to join the community in this great experience, and also gather experience and maybe motivation! (that can be short at times with us, indie devs)
In the other hand, there may be people with almost every reason to join the JAM as those quoted above, but they are also testing their Game Design skills, their technical skill, in witch case, they would appreciate more a "hard/critic" feedback that would not specially appreciate what they've done in short amount of time, but also point out things that could help they improve even further.

Well, if you're reading and have a opinion about my suggestion I would love to hear :D

Once again, thank you Jonas, I totally loved this jam and it was something that I needed!!

Agree on Outer Bounds. The mechanic has so much potential.

Congrats for finishing something. Definitely a reason to be proud. Well done!

Also thanks a lot for your feedback. I'll see if I can address that somehow next time. :)

well deserved winners imo!

CONGRATS!!!

I really enjoyed the jam, was a fun challenge and the theme was open, but still limitating enough to make you get creative.

about my jamming experience: I wish I had spend one or two hours more on level design,  but otherwise I'm fine with the end product I created in this relatively short amount of time.

The amount and quality of feedback I got was really amazing (especially on the Google Form)! I think this must be one of the best learning  experiences I ever had. I really owe this community one!

And what would you have sacrificed for the extra time needed on level design? That extra time needs to come from somewhere ;)

:D Yes, I probably could have sacrifieced a bit more of my sleep.

Congrats to the winners! Jonas, is there any chance that games in the top 30s~ will get shown as honorable mentions? Just kinda sucks to slightly miss top 25.

Host

There is always a chance. :P

I have not taken any place near to the top but that's fine. My game really wasn't that great BUT still I have learned a lot and gained sooo much quality feedback. I am excited what places I will take up in future game jams using my newly found knowledge. :P

Host(+1)

Awesome. I'm excited to see that as well. Best of luck! :)

Thank you. Good luck to you for a successfull "Will You Snail?" launch! =)

As I've said before in the private message, the community is awesome there. Very happy I got that high score and met a lot of super devs!

#41 topic #60 fun #85 WOWIE!

Host

Haha. Nice. Congrats. Just gave your game a quick shot. Really fun idea to switch between different bugs and use them like temporary game modifiers. Well done.  Glad you enjoyed the jam. :)

Congrats winners!!! Y'all had exceptional games.

This jam has been such an incredible experience! Thank you Jonas for hosting.

I feel so moved and inspired by this community of radical & supportive creators. Can't wait to do more and see what y'all produce in the future!

I got #69 which is so beyond perfect! The little cherry on top of my first jam experience for sure haha

Host(+1)

Awesome. I'm so happy to hear that. I already gave your game a quick shot today. Super interesting stuff. Feels like an interactive poem. Keep up the good work and I hope to see you around. :)

I had so much fun with this prompt and creating my game! Felt great to get #7 in sound, when the past 2-3 jam games I made I forgot to even add sound at all, lol

First off; thanks for hosting this jam and congrats on all the engagement!  I managed to rate 87 submissions and really had a blast; it was definitely a WOWIE time.  I had a few favorites; Mr. Swing King cracked me up with the poses and the use of the 'WOWIE' sound; buggybug was particularly memorable - that bizarre 3D environment was a real trip navigating, found myself having a bunch of fun with it; bug jar and white rectangle were some of the more polished experiences that were also fun!  Any of the titles being developed into a full release is something I'd support and be happy to see the developers accomplish.

Lessons Learned: I really love thinking about and developing games; my day-job (math modeling/programming/data-science/analysis) has been keeping me away from game development for too long; this gamejam was a great excuse to peel away (~4 hours) of dev time to submit a silly idea.  The experience was invigorating - and I am now seeking to maintain momentum, jamming to shake out what I can do Godot engine. There is a fair amount of engine details and technical know-how in Godot I'm optimizing and seeking to expand on; but the #1 thing this jam drove home for me the importance of the design step; coming into the project with a game mechanic in your mind helps to move the project along very quickly.  I spent the first 2 days of the jam prototyping technical mechanics without any direction - seeking for an idea - finally my wife brought the idea of bed bugs to me with the gameplay mechanic; then after getting the kids to bed; for a few hours on the last night I shook out an extremely rough prototype of the concept - and it was so much fun.  Ahhhh!

Things to do differently: Maybe provide an official WOWIE sound clip that's encouraged/required for players to put in the game.  I really thought the jam was great fun; no particularly suggestions.

Thanks again I had a blast!
